Her Story

About Carolyn

I work with businesses and business owners, but I also work with management for leadership and development and coaching. They go hand-in-hand together, because you can have a business, but if you have a team of managers who don't know how to help you run your business, you're not going to be successful. My day-to-day is split - I spend half of my time doing training for development right now, because I'm pivoting as the economy pivots. I do training for leadership, like for managers, project managers, supervisors, for leadership and development on performance management, communication, and emotional intelligence. I also have my own Serious Business Academy, where I work with business owners with less than $5 million in assets. These may be people who've been in business for less than 3 years who have come to a roadblock and don't know where to go or what to do. What makes my business for the Serious Business Academy unique is that it is biblical too - it's two parts. It's about how to run your business biblically, but also how to be operationally prepared and how to run it.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carolyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my faith. Truly my faith. All that I've gone through, I had to - that's why my book is called Trusting God in My Faith Walk. My faith. God got me through all the things that I've gone through. All of my dreams and my prayers have gotten me through, because of my faith, I believe it. I'm a Christ believer, so that's what I attribute my success to.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her, don't rush life. Seek God first. He will give her guidance. Believe in things that He's put into you, that you can do it. It's okay to make mistakes, because mistakes are opportunities to grow.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Partnership has been a huge challenge because in this time, people feel that, or organizations don't see the value and investment in their leadership. I do leadership training and developing coaching, and a lot of organizations - I hear it all the time whenever I'm doing training, the managers will tell me, you know, I'm really struggling in this area, I'm really struggling in this area, and then when I go to the CEOs, the president and HR, it's like, oh no, we don't need that, you know. I'm like, but your team is struggling. They won't tell you, but they tell me. Let's put together something. So, partnership has been a big challenge for the need of investments of their employee leadership.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and commitment. I say integrity because I believe in whatever I do, or whatever you do, we should do it with great respect and high expectation. I value that. I really do. If I'm gonna give my best, then I expect you to do the same thing. If God expects us to do things with integrity to represent him, then I have the same thing that I have to pack on that value too.
