Q

What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, hard work and God-given talent. My parents always taught me that whatever you do, you give 100%, you give your best. That applied to high school sports, classes, whatever it may be. I found out fairly early in life, I think when I was 6, that I wanted to write, and then through school competitions and academics, I found out that I had a talent for it. But then I got to college, and that really stretched me because they made us all take classes outside of what we were comfortable with - technical writing is very different from copywriting or creative writing. I still took that philosophy that I was gonna try to do my best, and I worked for straight A's. I remember a very specific conversation with a professor where he said that when it came to raw talent, I had the same as several of the other kids in the class, but what set me apart was how hard I worked. That has stuck with me, because there's always going to be someone else out there who's just as talented as I am. That doesn't make me special. What's gonna set me apart with my clients and with my quality of what I produce is gonna be how hard I work and how willing I am to take feedback and perfect it. That's what's gonna give my clients an A-plus experience.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice Carrie ever received was from a college professor who told her that while many peers may have raw talent, it is hard work that truly sets someone apart.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, one, take advantage of all the tools that you've grown up with. Social media is so huge these days, and the young women that come into this field, that's natural to them. All the different platforms, all the different technology, there isn't a learning curve like there was for Millennials or an even older generation, so I would say lean into those skills. And then, especially if they're doing the content creation side of things, I'd say just always be their most authentic self, because that's what's gonna really set them apart from everyone else out there. There's a lot of people who want to be content creators, or influencers, or whatever it may be, but if they just be like everyone else, they're just gonna blend in. Whether they're getting a new client or creating content, being their most authentic self is going to be their best asset.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunities in Carrie's field are the growing demand for social-media-native content creators and the ability to serve clients nationally and globally online. Authentic, storytelling-driven content presents a major opportunity to stand out in a crowded market.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to Carrie in her work and personal life are hard work, faith, authenticity, and community service.
