Carrie Miller, MS, ARNP-BC, CCNS

Founder and Chief Clinical and Operations Officer
VIP Pain Management
Jacksonville, FL 32246

Carrie Miller’s career in healthcare is a story of dedication, purpose, and innovation. She began her professional path in research before recognizing her calling in clinical medicine and pursuing nursing. Following her clinical rotations, Carrie demonstrated exceptional aptitude for critical care and was granted a rare opportunity to enter the ICU directly as a new graduate, bypassing the traditional requirement for prior medical surgical experience. That decision was quickly validated when she was named ICU Nurse of the Year in her first year of practice.

Building on this foundation, Carrie continued her advanced clinical training and became a board-certified nurse practitioner, expanding her scope of practice and leadership within complex care environments. With a clear vision for improving how pain is treated across the continuum of care, she went on to found VIP Pain Services, where she serves as Chief Clinical and Operations Officer.

Under her leadership, VIP Pain Services delivers personalized, multimodal pain management across multiple hospital campuses and post-acute care settings throughout Northeast Florida. Her work is distinguished by the integration of acute and post-acute services, emphasizing coordination, patient empowerment, and innovative therapies designed to improve outcomes and quality of life.

Carrie’s approach is grounded in clinical excellence, compassion, and a commitment to restoring function and dignity for patients living with acute and chronic pain. Beyond her executive and clinical leadership, she remains deeply engaged in professional development and advocacy, contributing to nurse practitioner organizations and serving on committees focused on performance improvement, protocol development, and patient centered care. Her career reflects a dedication not only to advancing healthcare standards, but also to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

First and foremost, I attribute my success to God. Through prayer and deep self reflection, I found clarity in the path I was meant to pursue. When you walk in alignment with that purpose, doors open in ways you could never anticipate.

Second, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family. Building and leading a practice requires time, focus, and sacrifice, and none of it is possible without the encouragement, patience, and understanding of the people who stand beside you at home.

Finally, my success is a reflection of the teams and colleagues I work with every day across both acute and post acute care settings. We believe in one another, support one another, and share a commitment to doing what is right for patients. Without that collective trust and collaboration, none of this would be possible.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best business advice I ever received came from a dear friend who owned his own practice. He reminded me that when you keep your focus on the patient, remain ethical and grounded in your truth, the business will follow. He was right.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering healthcare to focus on excelling in their core education and training, then discover a specialty that truly excites them, and surround themselves with a supportive team of professionals who share that passion.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges facing the nurse practitioner profession is the limited opportunity to practice at the highest level of education, training, and scope. Nurse practitioners play an integral role across the healthcare continuum, delivering high quality, patient centered care in complex clinical environments. While we are not physicians, that distinction was intentional. Nurse practitioners choose this path to lead within the nursing profession, bringing a unique blend of clinical expertise, holistic perspective, and systems based thinking to healthcare delivery.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are family, dedication, and joy. Spending quality time with my five children, staying active, traveling abroad and embracing new experiences like Latin dance that brings fun and connection.
