Taking the Leap: Faith, Purpose, and Empowering Women to Embrace Their Potential
For more than twenty years, I have dedicated my life to encouraging women to recognize their value, embrace their gifts, and take courageous steps toward the life they were created to live. One of the messages I share most often is that growth rarely happens in comfort. Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities come wrapped in uncertainty, fear, and risk. The challenge is finding the courage to take the leap anyway.
That lesson is one I know personally.
Many years ago, I found myself at a crossroads. I was juggling multiple jobs, following a path that felt secure and predictable. Yet I continually felt God calling me toward something greater—something that would serve a population that was often overlooked and underserved within the church community. At the time, special needs ministry was rare, and resources were extremely limited.
The calling was clear, but the path forward was anything but.
Taking that leap meant leaving behind the security of several jobs and stepping into the unknown. It meant trusting God with my future and believing that He would provide the resources, opportunities, and support needed to fulfill the vision He had placed on my heart.
So I jumped all in.
I founded a ministry dedicated to serving individuals with special needs and their families. As the need grew, I began writing special needs ministry curriculum to help churches create welcoming, inclusive environments where every person could experience belonging and spiritual growth. What began as an act of faith has grown into a lifelong mission of advocacy, education, and empowerment.
Throughout this journey, I have discovered that influence is not about titles or recognition. True influence comes from serving others, creating opportunities where none existed before, and helping people see possibilities they may not have seen for themselves.
Life, however, has a way of presenting challenges we never anticipate.
One of the most profound changes in my life came when I became a widow before the age of 40. No amount of preparation can equip you for a loss that significant. The path I thought I was walking suddenly changed, forcing me to navigate grief, uncertainty, and a future I never expected.
In those difficult seasons, I learned the importance of leaning on God and allowing others to walk alongside me. I discovered that resilience is not about having all the answers; it is about taking the next step even when the road ahead is unclear.
Those experiences have inspired the book I am currently writing. It explores how we create a path for ourselves when life takes unexpected turns and how faith, community, and perseverance can guide us through even the most challenging seasons. My hope is that readers will find encouragement to keep moving forward, trust God's direction, and recognize that even detours can lead to purpose.
More recently, another chapter of my life has inspired a new passion—writing children's books.
As a bonus mom in a beautifully blended family, I now have six children ranging in age from 9 to 21. Each child brings unique strengths, gifts, and perspectives to our family. Watching them grow has inspired me to create stories that celebrate those individual qualities and encourage children to embrace who they are.
Each book is written with an important message designed to help children recognize their strengths, build confidence, and understand the value they bring to the world. In many ways, these books are love letters to my children and reminders to all children that their differences, talents, and personalities are gifts worth celebrating.
Whether I am mentoring women, advocating for individuals with special needs, writing curriculum, authoring books, or raising my family, the message remains the same: You are capable of more than you realize.
The most transformative moments in life often begin with a single courageous step. Sometimes that step is leaving behind security to pursue a calling. Sometimes it is rebuilding after loss. Sometimes it is embracing a new role, a new dream, or a new season of life.
My journey has taught me that fear does not mean you are on the wrong path. Often, it means you are standing at the edge of something extraordinary.
To every woman standing at her own crossroads, wondering whether she has what it takes to move forward, my encouragement is simple: take the leap. Trust God, lean on the people who love you, and believe that your purpose is greater than your fear.
You never know whose life may be changed because you had the courage to say yes.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having the courage to take the next step, even when the path ahead felt uncertain. The most transformative moments in life often begin with a single leap of faith—whether that's leaving behind security to pursue a calling, rebuilding after loss, or embracing a new role, dream, or season of life. Success has come from being willing to grow through change, trusting the process, and staying committed to my purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to trust the journey and take the leap, even when fear is present. Trust God, lean on the people who support you, and remember that your purpose is greater than your fear. You never know whose life may be impacted because you had the courage to say yes to an opportunity.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to take risks and step outside your comfort zone. The moments that feel the most intimidating are often the ones that lead to the greatest growth. Say yes to opportunities, even when you don't feel completely ready. Your courage can open doors not only for yourself but also for others whose lives you may impact along the way.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is finding the time and space to pursue work that is personally fulfilling, especially for women balancing careers, families, and countless daily responsibilities. It can be difficult to prioritize your own passions when so many others depend on you.
Another challenge is navigating the publishing process, which can often feel overwhelming and unclear, particularly for first-time authors. There is a learning curve that requires persistence, research, and resilience.
Personally, I also continue to work through perfectionism. It's easy to wait until everything feels perfect before sharing your work, but growth often comes from putting yourself out there before you're completely ready. Learning to move forward despite the fear of "not being good enough" has been one of my greatest lessons.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Balance, presence, and purpose are the values that guide both my work and personal life. I strive to be fully present wherever I am—whether with my family, my work, or my community—and to give each my best. I've also learned that life is precious and moves quickly, so it's important to make time for the people and experiences that matter most. Success means little if we aren't taking the time to truly enjoy the journey.
