Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I think I'm extremely flexible and adaptable. I look at things from a very different perspective than what I perceive others who are struggling more with longevity do - I think not being able to quickly adjust and adapt to what's happening around them is a challenge for many. A lot of it, to me, is perspective. I talk all the time about perspective. Everything in life is about perspective - where you look from and how you choose to see something is what determines everything. If you see something as an obstacle, it will be an obstacle. If you see it as an opportunity, it will be an opportunity. So I would say probably flexibility and perspective are the biggest ones for me, in addition to the people that have been amazing influences in my career.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To be yourself, and to challenge. I think it's hard sometimes to do that, but I think people that know me know that I am the same person with every single person, no matter what level they are, no matter who they are. I am the same person, and I'm always very true to myself. But I'm always challenging what we can do better, and what we can think about differently, and where we can create.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say do not be the quietest person in the conversation. It doesn't mean you have to be loud - I don't think being the loudest person necessarily is what's important, but I think it's to be sure that your voice is heard. You have a perspective to offer, and it's usually a very valuable one, so find your moment and speak, you know, have a voice.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the big one is just the pace of change. Change is inevitable, and we need change to be able to stay competitive and to progress as an organization, but I think the pace of it is tough for everybody right now in any industry. And in pharma, I think it's particularly critical, because patients are waiting, and there are so many unmet medical needs, and it's our responsibility and passion, and really all of the work that we do to figure out how to do that the fastest and with the most quality. So, to try to take all of the world dynamics and things that are happening around us and pull those into a place where we can still make a difference in an effective way is hard right now, just because so much is changing. But I think it's also an opportunity. There's some fear behind AI and moving in that direction, and I think it's really all about helping people to see where it helps us and where it can actually multiply and magnify what we're doing, and not to be afraid of it, but to be mindful of the things that we have to be conscious of.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is definitely the first and foremost - respectful, but candid honesty. I would say humbleness is also very important, because people trust what you say, or the perspective that you bring when they know that you're coming at it from the right place. I would say those are the big ones: honesty, being humble, and treating everybody the way you want to be treated.
