Her Story
About Cassandra
I am a business developer for Virtual IT in Omaha. I previously worked in nurse recruiting, as an account strategist at The Knot, and as a makeup artist with Estee Lauder for six years. Growing up in a single-parent household and living with my grandma, I never thought a corporate career would be possible, making my role as a woman in IT especially meaningful.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Cassandra
01What do you attribute your success to?
Overcoming trauma from my childhood including SA by my stepdad for about 10 years, realizing I am a valuable person, people believing in me, and wanting to provide a safe and stable home for my son after he changed my trajectory.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My grandma always used to tell me, if you're gonna laugh about it in 10 years, why can't you laugh about it now? This helps me laugh in the moment even when embarrassed rather than feeling shame.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Sometimes you have to fake it till you make it. Especially in a male-dominated industry like IT, being confident doesn't come naturally to everyone, so fake it until you feel like that confident person who can go in and close business.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Balancing work and family life can be difficult, but opportunities include working with a company that allows flexibility and the potential to grow into different cities and states.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, family, and kindness. Honesty can be hard so deliver it with kindness, and make sure to spend quality time with family.
