About Cassy
Cassy Cox serves as Executive Director of a newborn health nonprofit. In this role, which she has held for a little over a year, she educates donors and audiences outside the contexts where the organization works about the challenges in neonatal care and the importance of context-appropriate tools such as a non-electrified baby warmer that can sustain warmth for up to six hours after boiling water. She also educates ministries of health and doctors in those regions about the tool's utility where consistent electricity is unavailable, and she travels to sites in Guatemala, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Kenya to see the work in action. Cassy Cox has been active in her field since 2009. Her path was shaped by a personal experience of early labor while working in Somalia, leading to medical evacuation and the birth of her twins at 29 weeks in the United States. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Albany in Albany, New York, completed a short period of service in the Army, and earned a master's degree in Global Affairs from NYU. Outside her professional work, she serves on the steering committee of a local master's rowing club as an amateur grower.
