Her Story
About Catherine
Catherine Campbell serves as Designer and CEO of her own business, Ashakari Designs, where her work centers on resort-type wear, casual wear, swimsuits, and lifestyle ensembles that form complete outfits suitable for various occasions. Her passion for design began early in Barbados, where as a toddler she started creating items from fabric scraps under her mother's sewing table and designed her first pair of shorts at age six. Over the years she built a cottage industry there with clients from afar, participated in fashion shows across the Caribbean and beyond, and earned features in major magazines while having notable models such as Jade from America's Next Top Model walk for her. After facing medical issues and relocating to the Orlando area, she is now focused on reestablishing her business with plans for a shop in her new hometown. Outside her design work she is known as a philanthropist who has fostered babies, mentored young girls and boys, and provided safety to battered women, drawing on her background as a massage therapist and healer.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your gut, because you're gonna have a lot of people saying, you can't do that. Hold what you're gonna do to heart, write it down. And manifest it. You know, put yourself in it. Look at it and say, yes. This is what I want, and this is how I'm gonna get it. And don't tell everybody your business, either.
