Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to maintaining a strong growth mindset and continuously striving to evolve both personally and professionally. My resiliency, curiosity, commitment, and goal-oriented mindset inspired me to pursue my MBA so I could expand my knowledge and leverage my experience more effectively. With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, I have developed a passion for bridging operations and technology to improve organizational outcomes. As a Senior Manager of Advisory for Revenue Cycle, I successfully transitioned from a purely operational role into one that combines operational expertise with technical consulting and system implementation. I credit much of my professional growth to early mentors who recognized my potential and encouraged me to pursue new opportunities. In particular, one director identified my strong analytical abilities and sponsored my transition into business analysis, helping shape the direction of my career. I find my work especially rewarding because the healthcare industry is constantly evolving, creating opportunities to innovate and solve complex challenges. My role allows me to help organizations improve healthcare revenue cycle processes while addressing issues such as staff shortages and revenue leakage through technology-driven solutions. I am passionate about building systems that effectively bridge clinical and financial operations to create greater efficiency and better outcomes. My analytical mindset has also contributed greatly to my success in driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and leading strategic initiatives. In a male-dominated industry, my deep expertise in billing, regulatory standards, analytics, and operational strategy has helped me remain competitive, respected, and impactful throughout my career. My curiosity mindset has also led me to an upcoming entrepreneurial venture involving a patented product for children and babies.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

During my first year in healthcare, one of my bosses recognized my strong analytical mindset and encouraged me to fully develop and use that talent. That mentorship and encouragement gave me the confidence to pivot into the career path I have today. I credit that early guidance with helping shape my professional journey and opening doors to opportunities I may not have otherwise pursued. Later in my career, a senior man in my position also gave me critical advice about knowing my worth and not being shy about negotiating. He told me to remember that my value is the same as anyone else's, and that was a big step in shifting my mindset. That advice helped me advocate for myself and not hold back, which is something many women struggle with, especially in male-dominated industries like tech.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering the industry to develop a strong growth mindset and remain open to continuous learning and development. I believe it is important to align with good mentors and maintain a learning mindset that helps sharpen and expand your professional toolbox over time. You are never in any position where you know it all, and there are always things to learn and grow into, especially in tech and revenue cycle, which are constantly evolving. In today's world of AI and automation, there is so much creativity and opportunity to solve different problems in the healthcare industry. I also advise young women to have confidence in their abilities, recognize their value, and never be afraid to advocate for themselves. It took me a while to build that confidence and learn to negotiate in my industry, and I want other women to develop that earlier in their careers. Most importantly, I encourage them to surround themselves with people who will support, champion, and advocate for their growth and success as well. The industry is broad, spanning doctors, payers, and different tools and systems, so you need to keep learning and expanding your knowledge across the ecosystem to become a subject matter expert.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is the ongoing shortage of staff and the issue of revenue leakage within healthcare organizations. At the same time, these challenges create opportunities for innovation and the development of more efficient technology-driven solutions. The more we are able to solve for these things that healthcare organizations are facing today in revenue leakage and shortage of staff, the more we can give to the world, even though it's on the administrative side. It is about bridging the clinical work that doctors do with the financial operations that keep their lights on. I also recognize that the technology side of the industry remains largely male-dominated, which can present challenges for women entering or advancing in the field. However, I believe this also creates a powerful opportunity for women to lead change, bring fresh perspectives, and help reshape the industry's future. With AI, robotics, digital transformation, and automation offering a variety of different solutions, from system configurations to APIs to robots, there are so many opportunities to create and solve complex problems in creative ways.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is one of the most important values that guides both my professional and personal life. I am deeply committed to proactive mentorship and people development, regularly helping mentor new junior consultants while encouraging others to grow in confidence and skill. I see anything that I work with or have my hands in as something like my baby. I don't see it as just someone else's company, I am part of this organization, and I want to see it succeed. That drives me, and so do the people underneath me. I want them to grow as well, and similar to what I have experienced from leaders, I always choose people underneath me that I am growing and transitioning, and if they grew, I did my job. I also value continuous improvement, innovation, adaptability, and the ability to remain resilient and calm under pressure in fast-paced environments. Outside of work, my faith and church community are equally important to me, and I actively volunteer and serve whenever possible. Above all, I treasure my role as a mother and am passionate about mentoring not only my son but also his friends, helping guide and encourage the next generation. I believe it is important for youth to have mentors and people exposing them to these messages early on so they are much more prepared mentally for the world by the time they reach their careers.
