Her Story

About Catherine

Cathy Reinard owns and operates the Catskill Mountains Gilboa KOA campground in Gilboa, New York, while also working as a real estate broker specializing in campgrounds and glamping properties. With 30 years as a campground owner and 6 years as a broker, she entered the industry after being a camper herself and deciding to pursue ownership when her previous job and family demands prompted a change. Reinard earned a BSIM in Industrial Management from the University of Akron and a master's degree in marketing from William Patterson University, both of which support her work in operations, marketing, and property sales. She recently closed the largest KOA resale transaction, a $30 million three-part portfolio. Reinard serves on three industry boards and mentors new campground owners. She attributes her success to being incredibly stubborn and not giving up, values doing what she says she will do while living honestly, kindly, and ethically, and advises sticking to park rules without exceptions. In the current market, she sees rising fuel costs as the biggest challenge and creative stay-in-play options as a key opportunity to encourage longer guest stays.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Catherine

01What do you attribute your success to?

The fact that I'm incredibly stubborn and I won't give up.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Stick to your guns. If you set park rules, keep them, enforce them, and don't let other people intimidate you into making exceptions.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You can be anything you want to be, and don't let anybody talk you out of it. There are not very many female owners of campgrounds, so we all tend to stick together.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Biggest challenge is rising fuel costs. Opportunity is to offer creative stay-in-play options so people stay longer at the park when taking fewer trips.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Do what you say you're going to do. Try to live as honestly and kindly and ethically as possible.
