Her Interview

Ten minutes with Cathy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to building relationships. I'm naturally curious about people and genuinely enjoy getting to know who they are, what motivates them, and what matters most to them. I believe people can tell when you truly care about them as individuals rather than seeing them as a transaction. That authenticity has been the foundation of many meaningful relationships throughout my career. Pairing that with a strong work ethic, a willingness to roll up my sleeves, and consistent follow-through has been key to my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always work hard, be kind, and take care of yourself because in the nonprofit sector you can run ragged if you keep giving until there's nothing left.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take care of yourself. Learn to trust yourself. Lead with your head and your heart. Build relationships before you need them. Listen more than you talk.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Funding sustainability for nonprofits and diversifying funding sources. Educating people that nonprofits need to invest in staff, overhead, technology, and pay people what they are worth rather than doing more with less.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, a strong work ethic, collaboration, curiosity, empathy, compassion, and being authentically yourself.
