About Catie

I didn't take a traditional path into executive leadership. I started my career as an administrative assistant and worked my way up to leading People functions for high-growth companies. That experience gave me a unique perspective on leadership and a deep appreciation for every role that contributes to an organization's success. After spending more than a decade in the beauty industry, I transitioned into healthcare and biotech nearly five years ago to challenge myself and expand my expertise. Today, I lead the People function at a venture-backed health tech company, partnering closely with the CEO to build the infrastructure, culture, and talent strategies needed to support growth. I am passionate about creating workplaces where people can do meaningful work, grow in their careers, and feel connected to the mission. Whether I'm designing scalable people programs, coaching leaders, or helping navigate organizational change, my focus is always on balancing business outcomes with employee experience. A recurring theme throughout my career has been the impact of strong female leadership. I've had the privilege of learning from remarkable women who opened doors, shared their knowledge, and demonstrated what authentic leadership looks like. Their influence continues to shape how I lead and how I support others on their own professional journeys.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of having a strong foundation, staying curious, and learning from exceptional leaders along the way. I started my career as an administrative assistant and worked my way up to the executive level, which gave me a deep appreciation for every role within an organization and a firsthand understanding of how businesses operate. I've also been incredibly fortunate to work for and alongside strong, influential women who challenged me, invested in my growth, and showed me what great leadership looks like. Their mentorship helped shape not only my career path but also the kind of leader I strive to be today. More than anything, I think my success comes from being willing to raise my hand for new opportunities, continuously learn, and approach challenges with both humility and determination. Those experiences, combined with the support of great mentors, have been instrumental in my career journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received was that sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. That advice has stayed with me throughout my career because my path has been anything but linear. There were moments when the right opportunity wasn't the one with the bigger title or the most obvious next step. Instead, it was the role that allowed me to gain new experiences, develop different skills, or challenge myself in ways that ultimately prepared me for future opportunities.

That perspective has helped me make career decisions based on long-term growth rather than short-term advancement. I've learned that careers aren't always a straight climb upward—sometimes the moves that seem sideways, or even like a step back, are the ones that create the greatest opportunities down the road.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to stay curious, be adaptable, and don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Biotech and health tech are incredibly rewarding industries, but they move fast. Priorities can shift quickly, challenges emerge unexpectedly, and there is always more to do than there is time to do it. One thing I've learned is that resilience matters just as much as expertise. There will be moments when your plate feels full, and then more gets added. As I recently told our leadership team, "There's a lot on our plate, but we keep eating." That's often the reality of working in a high-growth environment. The key is learning how to stay focused, keep moving forward, and not let the pace discourage you. I would also encourage young women to raise their hands for opportunities, even when they don't feel 100% ready. Some of the greatest growth in my career came from taking on challenges that stretched me beyond what I thought I was capable of. Trust yourself, continue learning, and remember that growth rarely happens when you're standing still.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in biotech right now is differentiation. There are so many innovative companies entering the space, all working to solve important healthcare challenges, which creates a highly competitive environment.

For emerging companies, the challenge is figuring out where they fit and how they stand out in a crowded market. Whether it's attracting talent, securing funding, building partnerships, or bringing new solutions to patients, organizations need a clear understanding of their unique value and purpose.

At the same time, that's what makes this such an exciting industry. The pace of innovation is incredible, and there are opportunities to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. Companies that stay focused on their mission, remain adaptable, and clearly define their place in the market are well-positioned to succeed. The challenge is finding your niche; the opportunity is the ability to shape the future of healthcare.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are empathy, transparency, and passion. Empathy is at the core of everything I do, both professionally and personally. I believe taking the time to understand others' perspectives helps build stronger relationships, better teams, and more meaningful connections.

Transparency is another value that has guided me throughout my career. I believe people do their best work when they have clarity, trust, and honest communication. Whether I'm navigating challenges, leading through change, or celebrating successes, I strive to be open and authentic in my approach.

Finally, passion is incredibly important to me. I do my best work when I feel deeply connected to a mission and believe in the impact of what I'm contributing to. That sense of purpose has guided many of my career decisions and continues to motivate me every day.
