Her Story

About Cece

I’ve spent the past 10 years building a career in hospitality and events, driven by a passion for creating meaningful experiences and lasting client relationships. I currently serve as Director of Event Sales at Avli, where I have led event sales for the past three years across four venues — three in Chicago and one in Milwaukee. In my role, I work closely with high-profile corporate clients, social clients , oversee strategic event growth, and manage every stage of the event process. My day-to-day involves receiving leads, planning events with clients, finalizing details, and coordinating with our on-site teams to ensure each event reflects our Greek-inspired concept. Before joining Avli, I worked as an event planner specializing in social events and weddings, where I built a strong foundation in personalized service, logistics, and creative event execution. Although I originally studied architecture and design at the University of Goce Delchev in North Macedonia, where I was born and even pursued interior design when I moved to the States. But I realized events was my true calling, as hospitality has always been part of my story. Inspired by my parents, who have both dedicated more than 40 years to the hospitality industry, I naturally found my way into a career that blends creativity, connection, and experience-driven design. I am passionate about building genuine relationships and creating engaging experiences that leave a lasting impression. My multicultural perspective, creative mindset, and attention to detail allow me to bring a thoughtful and elevated approach to every event while reflecting the warmth and energy of Avli’s Greek-inspired concept. Outside of my day-to-day work, I enjoy attending networking events, connecting with others in Chicago’s hospitality community, and continuously learning and growing within the industry. I am currently working toward a future leadership role as VP with aspirations to help expand new hospitality concepts throughout Chicago. Alongside my professional ambitions, I am also embracing my most meaningful role yet — being a first-time mom to my 4-month-old baby.

Ten minutes with Cece

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to building genuine relationships, staying adaptable under pressure, and leading with creativity and attention to detail. In the events industry, every experience matters, and I believe it’s consistency, passion, and teamwork that transform great ideas into truly unforgettable moments.

Most importantly, though, my greatest source of strength and success is my family. As a first-time mom to my 4-month-old baby, I’ve come to appreciate their support more than ever. My husband and family have been my biggest supporters throughout every stage of my career, constantly encouraging me and helping me balance both professional and personal life. Their unwavering support is truly the foundation that allows me to continue growing, creating, and succeeding in this industry.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is : “Your reputation is built on how you show up consistently.” Staying reliable, adaptable, and positive has opened more doors than anything else.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust your voice, stay confident in your ideas, and never underestimate the value of building strong relationships. The hospitality and events industry moves quickly, so staying adaptable and continuously learning is essential. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to take up space at the table. That’s one piece of advice I always share — speak up, contribute your ideas, and trust that your perspective matters. You’ve earned your seat at the table so don't pull your chair.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the hospitality and events industry is keeping up with constantly evolving trends and rising guest expectations. Today, people are looking for experiences that feel more personal, engaging, and memorable, which means there is always pressure to stay creative, innovative, and adaptable. At the same time, that’s also what makes this industry so exciting — it’s constantly evolving, and no two events are ever the same.

Especially in the corporate event world, guests are no longer satisfied with simply attending a dinner and leaving. Clients now want immersive experiences that encourage interaction, connection, and engagement throughout the event. The same shift is happening with weddings as well. Couples are moving away from traditional formats and looking for celebrations that feel unique, interactive, and truly reflective of their personalities.

That creates both a challenge and an opportunity, because every event requires a different approach, creative vision, and understanding of the audience. It pushes me to think differently, stay inspired, and continue learning every single day — which is one of the things I love most about this industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, authenticity, and kindness. I believe in treating people with respect, building genuine relationships, and always showing up with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
