Her Story
About Cecilia
Cecilia Carlan is a Wiring Technician at Caterpillar Inc. in Alpharetta, Georgia, bringing four years of experience as a wire technician and 12 years of experience in manufacturing. In her current role, she wires switchboards and equipment used in data centers, hospitals, government facilities and military bases. Her work requires her to read detailed schematics, collaborate with engineers on red-line changes, maintain rigorous safety and PPE standards, and work extended hours on ladders or inside electrical cabinets. Cecilia takes great pride in the quality of her work and is committed to helping her team succeed, including supporting new employees as they learn their responsibilities.
Cecilia's career path was influenced by her family. Growing up, she watched her grandfather operate an HVAC company with government contracts and saw her father use his electrical and mechanical skills to fix almost anything. Their example helped her recognize that technical work could provide meaningful opportunities to serve others, particularly through systems that support critical facilities. Working in a traditionally male-dominated field, Cecilia has learned the importance of perseverance, self-confidence and maintaining a strong work ethic. She encourages young women entering the industry not to give up, emphasizing that supportive colleagues can recognize dedication and hard work. She credits the values and morals instilled in her by her upbringing, along with her belief that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to, as important foundations of her professional success.
Outside of work, Cecilia enjoys spending time with her 17-year-old son, with whom she shares a love of outdoor adventures, tubing, gardening, cooking and college football. They especially enjoy cheering for the University of Georgia and spending time together planting flowers. Cecilia also enjoys reading and writing and values the close relationships she shares with her three sisters and extended family. Her family, faith and determination have remained important sources of strength throughout her journey, while her dedication to setting a positive example for her son continues to motivate her to work hard, persevere and take pride in what she accomplishes.
