Her Story

About Cecilia

Cecilia Spencer is a healthcare operations and analytics professional specializing in revenue cycle management, claims intelligence, payment integrity, and AI-enabled healthcare solutions. Her career journey began as a Certified Medical Assistant after completing her training at Auburn University, where she developed a passion for hands-on patient care and gained valuable insight into the healthcare system. This experience inspired her transition into case management and healthcare administration, where she built expertise in compliance, Medicare terminology, patient care coordination, and operational workflows.

Cecilia later advanced her career at Aetna (CVS Health), where she spent nearly three-and-a-half years managing complex medical claims, including Medicare, transplant, specialty drug, DME, foreign, and high-dollar claims. She developed strong expertise in CPT coding, modifiers, reimbursement processes, and claims quality management. She then joined OpenNetworks as an early team member, helping build internal systems and workflows designed to improve provider contracts, claims accuracy, and healthcare data processes. Her experience across payer operations, provider relations, and healthcare technology allows her to connect clinical insights with business and operational strategies.

Today, Cecilia works as an EHR Expert supporting AI-driven healthcare initiatives by improving documentation accuracy, identifying data inconsistencies, and helping optimize charting and insurance processing workflows. She continues to expand her expertise through certifications in HIPAA, GDPR, AWS Cloud, GRC, and healthcare technology while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Administration at Western Governors University. Guided by accountability and integrity, Cecilia is passionate about leveraging technology, data, and collaboration to improve healthcare operations and create better outcomes for both organizations and patients.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Cecilia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my personal experience as a healthcare patient. Spending a month in the hospital receiving care gave me a deeper understanding of the patient experience and inspired me to make a difference for others. It motivated me to dedicate myself to helping the next person who may find themselves in that same position.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is that it’s not about the title—it’s about the work you do and the impact you create. Careers are not always a straight path, but showing up, staying committed, and working to make a positive difference is what truly matters.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to stay nimble and embrace change. Opportunities may come in unexpected ways, and adapting to new challenges can lead to growth and new possibilities.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating a traditionally male-dominated administrative and business environment. However, it also creates opportunities to bring fresh perspectives, think creatively, and drive meaningful change. Being part of a team that embraces innovation has shown me that positive transformation is already happening.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are accountability and integrity. I believe in taking responsibility for my actions, being open to feedback, and continuously improving. Maintaining integrity means respecting myself and others while ensuring that I treat people with honesty and fairness.
