Her Story
About Celine
I've been working in game development for approximately 4 years. I just graduated with my Master's in computational media from UCSC this past June. About a year ago, I started my own game studio called Studio T12 where I'm the producer and game lead. In my undergrad, I worked as a producer for a 70-plus person studio where we created two games. My main areas of expertise are production work, where I focus on organizing teams and leading with a friend-first approach, and narrative design. One of our games, Meet the Rookie, won the UCSC Best Narrative Award in 2024. I'm passionate about creating compelling stories in interactive media.

Ten minutes with Celine
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success so far has been my own determination to keep going even when things look grim or are going sideways, but also the community, making sure that I was in contact with the game community around me and having other game developers support you and understand you.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice came from Chef Lawson in my catering and kitchen work. She taught me how to work in the kitchen and how you shouldn't stop moving if you're working on something, how everything should be timed to be with each other or else something burns or gets cold. That's the best way to look at production and how I still organize my production work today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take care of yourself and put yourself first. It's important to stay strong, stand your ground, and especially in an industry that is predominantly a lot of men. But it's also important to take time for yourself, decompress, and make sure that you are okay and healthy because this industry can and will burn you out if you let it. Watch out for burnout and find time for something that makes you happy outside of games.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
We are currently looking for funding for Studio T12. It's been rather difficult as we are low on our game's wishlist. We released our demo and need approximately 10,000 wish lists to go anywhere with this, and we are currently at about 230. We want to look into funding and pitching to funders.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Kindness and understanding more than anything. I've seen games go down because people care more about productivity than kindness. When you give kindness and understanding in a position of leadership, working with the person as a person, you're more likely to come out with a better product. I pushed back a game's release when team members had personal struggles to avoid burnout.
