Her Interview
Ten minutes with Chalice
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support and encouragement of my parents, who challenged me to continually strive for excellence while allowing me the independence to pursue my own path. They gave me the freedom to make decisions, learn through experience, and grow from both successes and setbacks. Their trust and guidance instilled the confidence, resilience, and determination that continue to shape my personal and professional journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to be fully present and appreciate where I am today rather than constantly focusing on the next opportunity, promotion, salary increase, or academic achievement. I've learned that every stage of my career offers valuable experiences and lessons that prepare me for future opportunities, and it's important to embrace the journey while remaining committed to continuous growth.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women entering public health to support one another and recognize the value of collaboration. Public health is a broad and diverse field, and many professionals contribute to improving community health without realizing their work falls within the public health sector. Building strong relationships, uplifting others, and remaining open to the many career pathways available can create meaningful opportunities to make a lasting impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges in public health is helping others understand the breadth and value of the profession. Many people underestimate how transferable public health skills are across industries, making it difficult for professionals to enter the field despite their qualifications. Additionally, there is often a significant gap between the level of responsibility public health professionals carry—such as managing multimillion-dollar programs that directly impact communities—and the compensation they receive. At the same time, this presents an opportunity to increase awareness of public health's impact and advocate for greater recognition and investment in the profession.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my professional and personal life are passion, empathy, understanding, knowledge, and a strong commitment to community. I believe in meeting people where they are, recognizing that everyone faces different challenges, and treating others with compassion and respect. By combining expertise with empathy, I strive to create meaningful solutions that improve access to resources, strengthen communities, and positively impact the lives of others.
