Her Interview
Ten minutes with Chanda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I am relentless in the pursuit of the next level. I've always felt like I'm playing a video game where I'm just never truly happy with the status quo, and I'm constantly in that relentless pursuit of the next best stage for me personally. After being in it 25 years, I feel like I'm just now getting started and I'm really driven to continue to pursue excellence and that next level.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is from Warren Buffett. He instilled in us that of all the success that he's had, loving other people is at the heart of what he wanted us to do. In sales, it can be about getting something, but at the heart of it, you have to also have a servant's heart. You have to be able to love people, whether it's your sales team or leaders above you, have empathy and serve them with love.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Really work on your mindset first. If you can enter the sales field with a CEO mindset, and treat every day as if you are running your own business, you're going to be okay. You're going to be able to pick yourself up when it gets really hard. Sales takes an incredible amount of self-belief and reliance, so make sure that your mindset is strong before you even pick up a phone or go knock on a door.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges include being one of the few females in the room and having your voice heard in a male-dominated field. Opportunities are balancing mass automation with human touch in sales, and the need for hands-on coaching which is becoming a dying breed. There's no faster way to turn around a sales team than to sit with reps, listen to calls, and coach them through it.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Number one is honest and consistent communication. I do not believe anybody is going to be successful in sales unless you are a great communicator from start to finish, but that honesty and transparency is always there. The other one is work hard, play hard, because sales is a grind, but you also need to carve out time to enjoy the fruits of what you've earned and really have balance in your life.
