Chanell Colsden Morrison (She/Her) is an accomplished educator and ambassador with a passion for inspiring and supporting students of all ages. She is currently returning to the classroom as a Pre-K4 teacher at Play and Grow Learning Academy, building on over a decade of experience in education, including roles as a first-grade teacher and pre-K instructor, and teaching remote. Chanell’s teaching career spans diverse learning environments, from serving pre-K students who are hearing impaired—where she applied her sign language skills—to guiding middle school learners, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to student growth. Beyond the classroom, Chanell leverages her strong communication and leadership skills in community-focused roles. As a Slide Jewelry Ambassador, she showcases fine jewelry through social media, while her work as a Supervised Visitation Monitor with Triumph Family Services reflects her dedication to supporting families and ensuring safe, positive interactions between children and non-custodial parents. These experiences highlight her ability to connect with people, manage responsibilities with precision, and maintain professionalism across varied settings. Chanell’s academic achievements further underscore her commitment excellence. She earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from Grand Canyon University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Police from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society and Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority, and her greatest joy comes from seeing the progress and success of her students. Chanell believes that patience, passion, and dedication are the keys to thriving in education and inspires others to follow their own calling with the same commitment. Chanell also wrote a book about Women's Health that is on Amazon. The name of the book is THE QUIET STORM: A Woman's Guide to Heavy Bleeding, Menstrual Cramps & Reclaiming Her Cycle. She is working on another book that should be out either in June or July 2026 that will be focused on teenager's health called First Flow: A Guided Workbook for Your Changing Body.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to following my true calling and remaining passionate about education. Over 13 years as a teacher’s assistant and six years as a teacher—working with students from pre-K for the hearing impaired, where I applied my sign language skills, to middle school—I’ve learned that dedication and patience are essential. Even during the years I explored jewelry and nail accents, my heart remained in the classroom, and I’m thrilled to be returning this May as a pre-K4 teacher. While earning my Master’s in Education stands as one of my proudest accomplishments, the greatest joy comes from seeing my students grow and thrive. My advice to young women entering the field is simple: have patience, and be wholeheartedly passionate about what you do.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was to leverage all of their classroom experience and to consider roles that allow for a broader impact. With a bachelor degree in psychology and criminal justice, and a master’s in elementary education, it could be really rewarding to look into leadership roles, maybe instructional coaching, or even curriculum development. Also, children needs someone that can understand them and having a psychology degree can help you achieve that. Therefore, it’s a great way to share all that hands-on knowledge with other educators and really shape the learning environment on a bigger scale.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

For someone just starting out in the teaching profession, a solid piece of advice is to really build strong relationships with their students and to stay flexible. It’s important to connect on a personal level because that helps create a positive classroom environment. Also, remind them that flexibility is key because things don’t always go as planned. Encourage them to keep learning and to lean on experienced colleagues for support.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges teachers are facing right now include overwhelming workloads, diverse student needs, technology pressures, high demand from administrators, student behavior and mental‑health concerns, and ongoing issues with equity and access.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are professionalism, empathy, and continuous growth. I believe in treating every student with dignity, maintaining high expectations with compassion, and always striving to improve my practice. Personally, I value balance, integrity, and meaningful relationships.
