Ten minutes with Chantal
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support of my family and friends, who believed in me even when I doubted myself. Their encouragement and confidence in my abilities gave me the strength to keep pursuing my goals and dreams, especially during the moments when I wasn’t sure I could succeed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up, even when you have doubts. Trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be, and never underestimate or doubt your skills and abilities.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never stop trying. Strive to be 1% better every day, and always work to leave the fire service better than you found it. Stay focused on your goals, and never let anyone tell you that you can't do something.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the fire service today is adapting to the changing demands of the profession. From increasingly complex emergency responses to evolving community expectations. Balancing operational readiness with the mental and physical well-being of personnel is also an ongoing concern. At the same time, these challenges present tremendous opportunities. We can continue to elevate professionalism through education, mentorship, and leadership development. Embracing innovation, diversity, and inclusive recruitment strengthens our service and better reflects the communities we protect. By supporting one another and fostering growth at every level, we not only overcome challenges, we make the fire service stronger for the future.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, accountability, and service are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I believe in leading with honesty, treating people with respect, and taking responsibility for my actions and decisions. I also value commitment to learning and growth, because staying motivated to improve, both as a leader and as a person, allows me to better serve my organization, my team, and my family.
