Her Story

About Charity

Charity Johnson is a federal investigator serving as Special Agent Johnson from Monday through Thursday, while also running her business, The Tipsy Bloom. She has spent four years in the floral industry as of September 30th, creating her own lane as a non-traditional florist who centers floral arranging around affirmations and self-love, primarily for women. Johnson hosts workshops for team building, celebrations of life such as baby showers and birthday parties, and other group events, often bringing fresh flower arrangements to her clients' locations. Her educational background includes a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and an associate's degree in law enforcement from Southern University in Baton Rouge, followed by a master's degree from Tulane University in New Orleans in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, which helped her secure her federal role. She attributes her success to remaining optimistic and seeing the positive in challenges, values authenticity and self-love in her work, and advises women entering the industry to trust their instincts and create their own blueprints without letting outside voices deter them.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Charity

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'd like to say just remaining optimistic. There are so many things that are happening in the world and continue to happen that can kind of just dampen your spirit and put a weight on you, and so I am a person that tries to see the positive in all things. So regardless of what the challenge is or what is going on, I like to look at what happened for me instead of what happened to me. So I believe that being optimistic and trying to remain positive throughout all of these challenges that you might encounter would be what I attribute my success to.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I guess I would say just to trust your instincts, and to trust your gut, right? I don't think that there is anything wrong with stepping outside of the box. If there's not a current blueprint for you and what you're trying to do, it is up to you to create that for yourself. So just kind of trust your own God-given instinct to pursue something that you're passionate about, and don't let outside voices deter you.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Creating something for the first time, merging the wine and floral industry, building fresh flower arrangements on top of wine and champagne bottles. Challenges include constantly trying to find spaces or opportunities to market what it is that I do and how I can bring value to someone else because it is unique and not a traditional vase.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say the values most important to me is just remaining authentically who I am. And just being organic to myself first, loving myself first, and then just using the voice and the skill set that God has given me to bring people together and apply that to my brand.
