Her Story

About Charlene

Charlene Williams is an Operations Manager, bringing approximately 15 years of experience to the handyman and home services industry, supported by a construction background of more than seven years. She plays a central role in overseeing daily operations and ensuring clients receive reliable, high-quality services. In her current role, Charlene is responsible for a wide range of operational and customer-facing functions, including communicating directly with clients about repair needs and service options, preparing estimates based on handyman site visits, and selling monthly maintenance packages. She also supports business growth by recruiting skilled handymen, attending networking events, and managing the company’s marketing presence through social media content and promotional flyers. Prior to her career in home services, Charlene spent over seven and a half years in the legal field, advancing from filing clerk to senior paralegal and ultimately law firm administrator. This experience strengthened her organizational, administrative, and client service skills, which she now applies in a fast-paced operations environment. She brings a strong foundation in leadership, communication, and service excellence to every aspect of her work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Charlene

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to God and myself.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

It’s about who you know, not what you know. Your network equals your networth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be nice but firm, and always lead with patience. Don’t take things personally—at the end of the day, business decisions are just that: business. However, it’s important to address disrespect immediately and professionally by setting clear boundaries and advocating for yourself. Above all, put yourself first and prioritize your well-being. Create and maintain a consistent self-care routine that includes therapy, exercise, and other activities that help you recharge. Taking care of yourself allows you to show up as your best self both personally and professionally.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced as an Operations Manager is navigating a male-dominated industry as a Black woman. At times, this has meant having to work harder to ensure my voice is heard, my expertise is recognized, and my contributions are valued. However, it has also created opportunities to lead by example, bring diverse perspectives to decision-making, and mentor others who may face similar challenges. I believe that diversity in leadership strengthens organizations and drives better outcomes for everyone.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In both my work and personal life, I value integrity, trust, accountability, and strong relationships. I believe in treating people with respect, communicating openly, and following through on commitments. I also value continuous growth and strive to make a positive impact in everything I do.
