Her Story

About Charlise

Charlise Groves serves as Assistant Property Manager at Perform Properties, overseeing a portfolio of 20 retail shopping centers across the Puget Sound region in Washington state. She brings more than 10 years of real estate experience, having begun her career in residential property management after an unexpected entry into the field during a job fair in Oakland, California. Over the years, she advanced through roles including lease agent, senior leasing agent, leasing manager, assistant manager, assistant leasing director, and sales director, working across diverse asset classes such as Class A properties, tax credit housing, and senior living. Seven months ago, she transitioned to commercial real estate to broaden her expertise in preparation for her long-term goal of becoming a real estate attorney. Charlise holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Liberal Arts from California State University, with a focus on the humanities, which supports her people-oriented approach. She is a Certified Tax Credit Specialist, holds a CMHR Certificate, and maintains a California Real Estate Salesperson License while pursuing her Washington broker's license. She attributes her success to the example set by her late mother, a driven woman who lived for her children despite health challenges, and she values integrity, initiative, confidence, and openness in both her professional and personal life.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Charlise

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to my mom, rest her soul. My mom was a very, very driven woman... she would get up and go to dialysis every single day, and she would say, I get the best pay ever. Dialysis is my job, and I get paid with another day of life... My mom made 18 years on dialysis... parents will say that they will die for their children, but my mom truly lives for my siblings and I.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I had this old supervisor about 10 years ago... She used to always tell me, Charlie, if people don't know what you don't know, Until you tell them. So, do act like you are the expert in every field, and I promise you, That's for everything... Go about your days acting like you are an expert in everything. You will be an expert in everything. Never be afraid to learn new things.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say integrity and initiative and confident and being open. Be open to learn new things, confident in what you know already, taking the initiative to get things done, and having the integrity to do the right thing when no one is pressuring you.
