Her Interview

Ten minutes with Charlize

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to my community. I don't think that I'd be where I'm at without the support of my family, my friends, even just people online who support me, who buy my project, who come to my events and purchase a ticket to attend my events. I think all of those people are the reasons why I'm able to continue to put things together and to be able to spotlight other emerging artists as well.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Best career advice I've received is to speak about things as if they're already happening. Instead of saying I aspire to be a singer or artist, say I am an artist, I am a performer, and really embodying that. The things will come to you as you continue to embody that.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women to not take no for an answer. It might be no for right now but it's not no forever. Certain doors open when other doors close and take that sign as a redirection and not as a total loss. And just to keep going because eventually it'll all make sense.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity in my field right now is that with the emergence of AI and the lingering effects of post-pandemic, people are really craving this sense of community and being able to be outside and experience things firsthand. There's a lot of opportunities to provide that kind of experience for people in different mediums.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is my most number one value in work and personally. I think when you show up to things honestly and true to yourself people appreciate that and for yourself you do yourself the justice of knowing that you're doing the best that you can and you're showing up as great as you can with whatever capacity that you can.
