About Charmaine
Charmaine Burrell serves as an outpatient therapist at Essence of Pearls Counseling, where she utilizes various modalities and frameworks to provide therapy services accessible regardless of insurance type. She also works as an academic liaison offering behavioral and emotional support within a school district. With more than 20 years of experience in human services, including prior roles with the Department of Youth Services supporting at-risk youth and work with adults and children with special needs, Burrell transitioned into social work by returning to school during the COVID period. She earned her bachelor's degree in social work from Bridgewater State University in 2024 and completed her MSW in 2026. Burrell maintains multiple certifications including CAN, case management, substance use, and domestic violence. She is a member of the NASW Massachusetts chapter, CWSE, and serves as chair of Compass Working Capital, an organization focused on financial literacy and education for housing authority residents, as well as vice chair of the Dedham Youth Commission. As a Bridgewater State University alumna, she mentors undergraduate social work students and emphasizes cultural humility and competence in her therapeutic practice.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would ask her to explain to me why she picked this field first. There's a lot of misconception about the field... we can't fix people. We can give people the tools that they need that will help themselves... making sure that the young person understands that it's a commitment going into this field
