About Charmion
Charmion Anderson is a social worker based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with more than 25 years of experience in the human services field. She began her career in 1999 as a mentor for a nonprofit organization in Portsmouth and later worked in government roles in the Washington D.C. and Maryland area, including with PG County starting around 2001. After transitioning during the COVID period in 2020, Anderson joined Virginia Beach Public Schools and expanded her work with nonprofits focused on at-risk youth, delivering workshops on employment skills, resume development, and career goal setting. She has also served as an employment specialist with Goodwill, assisting individuals with disabilities in learning job skills and preparing resumes. In addition, she works part-time with Extra Special Parents LLC, a nonprofit that manages foster parents, where she conducts home studies and licenses homes. Anderson earned a Bachelor's in Social Work from Norfolk State University, a Master's in Business Administration from St. Leo University, and a certification in nonprofit leadership from Capella University. She is currently a board member of 4D Women, a scholarship organization supporting young moms returning to school, and previously served on the board of Link Up Hampton Roads, which works with homeless organizations. She attributes her success to the motivation and work ethic modeled by her mother and the encouragement from her teacher, Ms. Yarbrough, to persevere and grow. Anderson's career advice emphasizes accountability, integrity to the organization, and maintaining a strong work ethic.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my mom who was always very motivated and a workaholic, always working and having creative ideas, starting businesses and going back to school for her degrees. My teacher Ms. Yarbrough also inspired me to never give up on myself, to keep trying even when things were hard like in math, and to allow myself a chance to grow and learn.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is making sure that you do your job and are accountable for your work, maintaining integrity to the organization. Your personal work reflects not just you but the organization, so having integrity and maintaining good work ethic is key.
