About Charvi
Charvi Bastio is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the mental health field. She began providing services in 2023 and is currently in her third year while still working toward full licensure. Charvi earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at UCI after transferring from a program in India. She did some years of master's in applied behavioral analysis and later pursued and completed a marriage and family therapy program at the same university. Her early experience includes working at the Higher Ground non-profit in Anaheim, where she facilitated group therapies with children and provided individual counseling focusing on trauma and anxiety. She now practices in a private setting, developing a niche focused on OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and supporting both immigrants and LGBTQ clients. Charvi attributes her success to a combination of effort, support, her own therapy, and developing self-awareness. She values recognition, reflection, and empathy in her work and personal life, and advises young women entering the field to prioritize community and seeking support.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Charvi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think it's a combo thing. My parents put in a lot of effort and support and blood, sweat, tears... a lot of my own work therapy helped me develop that tenacity... gaining and working on that awareness.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The sense of community and the need for that within the field... that is where that's what sustains us... the biggest focus comes on community and your own ability to reach out for that assistance or support as needed.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think recognition, reflection, and empathy... reflection go hand in hand with self-awareness and your own understanding of life. Without that, I don't think anyone can actually get anywhere.
