Ten minutes with Chelsea
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Find a way to be organized. It doesn't have to look traditional like color-coding a calendar. Understand what teams you're supporting, what work is part of a bigger picture or ad hoc requests. Be organized enough to respond to requests from leadership or another team and understand how everything connects. Keeping those pieces grouped will make sure you can stay on top of things and keep presenting as a supportive asset to the team.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
A lot of marketing, especially on the tech side and now in environmental consulting, involves working with a sales or field organization that has a different perspective and more client focus. There's always an urgency that you need to balance with your own to-do list and priorities. You have to work really hard to serve them as the internal client while they serve the actual clients, plan ahead while being ready for ad hoc emergency requests, and balance what is not actually an emergency versus a new opportunity.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Accountability, enthusiasm, and collaboration. Be honest about your workload, follow through if you say you can do something by a certain time so people can count on you. Find enthusiasm in your work whether it's a tool, team, or trade show. Enjoy working with different teams and finding ways to work across the business rather than being siloed.
