Her Story
About Cher
Cher Gil’s journey reflects her belief that growth can happen at any stage of life. After building a long professional career, she chose to follow a passion that had continued to grow over the years: mental health, personal development, and supporting individuals as they work through life’s challenges. That path led her back to school, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in mental health and continued on to pursue her Master of Social Work at Rutgers University. Cher is also the founder of Inspiring Life’s Journey-cher0805, a platform she created as a space for encouragement, reflection, and empowerment. Her work reflects a message she carries into her own life: growth does not have an expiration date, and where an individual begins does not have to determine where they end up.
Through her education, behavioral health experience, life coaching, and years of experience in a professional setting, Cher continues to build a path centered on mental health and making a meaningful impact. She hopes her own journey can encourage others to believe in their abilities, continue growing, and pursue what matters to them even when the road is not easy.

Ten minutes with Cher
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to staying true to who I am and continuing to move forward, even when the path has not always been easy. I try to give my all to whatever I am doing, even when I may not be exactly where I want to be, because I believe there is always something to learn and room to grow. I have also learned the importance of being open to change without losing myself in the process. Staying grounded in who I am, believing in my abilities, and continuing to push forward through different stages of my life have played a major part in getting me to where I am today. I am still growing, still learning, and still becoming, and I think that is part of success too.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to do your research because the mental health field is very broad. Take the time to figure out what really speaks to you and what kind of impact you want to make. Pay attention to your passions and where you can truly see yourself growing and making a difference. Once you find that direction, go for it. Seek out resources, take advantage of opportunities, and keep working toward the goals you set for yourself. Most importantly, don’t give up. There will be resistance, pushback, and obstacles along the way, but believe in yourself and what you are capable of. Keep moving forward, even when the path is not easy. If it matters to you, keep going after it.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is one of the values I carry with me in every part of my life. How I carry myself, the example I set, and the impact I may have on others matter to me. I believe even the smallest everyday interactions can affect the environment around us, which is why I try to be mindful of the energy and presence I bring into a space. Staying true to who I am is also important to me. I never want to become something that does not reflect my character just to fit into a certain space or expectation. I want to remain grounded in who I am, continue growing, and move through both my personal and professional journey with intention, integrity, and purpose.
