Her Story

About Cherie

My work sits at the intersection of communications, storytelling, and people-centered strategy. With a background spanning education, professional writing, marketing, and hospitality communications, I bring a unique perspective to how organizations connect with the people they serve.

Today, I work as a Communications & Content Specialist with Rosen Hotels & Resorts, where I focus on internal communications, associate engagement, storytelling, and brand-aligned messaging. My work is rooted in the belief that communication does more than deliver information—it shapes culture, builds trust, and influences how people experience organizations from the inside out.

Prior to transitioning fully into communications, I spent years in education as an International Baccalaureate educator, where I developed expertise in audience awareness, clarity, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement. That experience continues to shape the way I approach communication strategy today: with empathy, intentionality, and a deep understanding of how messaging impacts people.

In addition to my professional work, I am a published author and thought leadership writer with a passion for communication that creates connection and drives impact. Across every role I’ve held, my focus has remained the same: helping people and organizations communicate with clarity, purpose, and authenticity.

Ten minutes with Cherie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to adaptability, consistency, and a willingness to evolve.

My career path has spanned education, professional writing, marketing, and hospitality communications, and each experience has strengthened my understanding of how powerful intentional communication can be in shaping connection, culture, and opportunity.

I’ve always been intentional about continuing to grow my skills, expand my perspective, and take on work that challenges me creatively and professionally. That mindset has allowed me to build a career rooted in storytelling, strategic communication, and meaningful engagement across industries.

Above all, I attribute my success to a people-first approach to communication and a belief that clear, thoughtful messaging has the power to create trust, strengthen communities, and make a lasting impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to focus on building expertise, not just chasing titles.

Early in my career, I learned that meaningful growth comes from consistently developing your skills, staying adaptable, and doing work with intention—even before the “perfect” opportunity arrives.

That perspective allowed me to build a strong foundation in communication, storytelling, and audience engagement that has translated across education, writing, marketing, and hospitality communications.

It’s advice I still carry with me today, because when you focus on creating value, building trust, and mastering your craft, opportunities naturally follow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to focus on building your voice, your perspective, and your skill set with intention.

In communications, marketing, and storytelling, technical skills matter—but so does your ability to understand people. The strongest communicators aren’t just good writers; they know how to listen, adapt, think strategically, and create messages that genuinely connect.

I would also encourage young women not to wait for permission to begin. Start creating. Start writing. Start building your portfolio and sharing your ideas early, even before you feel fully ready.

Most importantly, trust the value of your perspective. Clear, thoughtful communication has the power to influence culture, strengthen communities, and create meaningful impact—and your voice deserves space in that conversation.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in communications and marketing right now is the sheer volume of content competing for attention. In a fast-moving digital world, people are constantly being asked to process more information, more quickly than ever before.

Because of that, I believe the greatest opportunity in the field is intentional communication.

Organizations that communicate with clarity, authenticity, and empathy will continue to stand out—not simply because they are louder, but because they are more meaningful and trustworthy.

I also think there is growing recognition that communication is not just a support function. It shapes culture, influences experience, strengthens engagement, and directly impacts how people connect with organizations and brands.

The future of the field belongs to communicators who can combine strategy with storytelling and create messaging that not only informs but also builds trust, connection, and long-term impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and personal life are integrity, intentionality, growth, and empathy.

I believe meaningful communication starts with authenticity and a genuine respect for people. Whether I am creating content, developing communication strategies, or building connections through storytelling, I value clarity, thoughtfulness, and the responsibility that comes with shaping how people experience information and organizations.

Growth is also deeply important to me. I believe in continuously learning, evolving, and being willing to adapt—not only professionally, but personally as well. Some of the most meaningful growth in my career has come from embracing change, staying curious, and remaining open to new opportunities and perspectives.

Above all, I value purpose-driven work. I want the work I do to create connection, strengthen understanding, and positively impact the people and communities it reaches. That belief shapes how I approach both my career and my everyday life.
