Cherise Wise is a dedicated healthcare revenue cycle and prior authorization professional with over 13 years of experience in insurance verification, claims analysis, and patient support. She has served as Insurance Verification Specialist at Cincinnati Children's since 2014, where she confirms or obtains pre-authorizations for scheduled services across multiple specialties, including the Cincinnati Centers for Eosinophilic Disorders. Prior to this, she worked in doctors' offices and handled claims. A high school graduate who attempted some college, she is recognized as a detail-oriented and organized professional committed to supporting families through insurance navigation. 01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from consistency and being very well organized with a Type A personality. I am very detail oriented and focus on effective communication with team members and parents along with thorough documentation because if it's not documented then it didn't happen.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You have to love it and want to do it. There are many different routes you can take with prior authorization such as working at a hospital or doctor's office, and a background in it can take you to different fields, but most importantly you do have to love it because you're helping people.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the rising cost of everything including insurance premiums and that insurance companies are paying for less and less. Many do not cover necessities like children's hearing aids which is unfortunate as these kids need to learn and use their facilities to the best they can.
