Her Story

About Cherita

Cherita Scott brings 22 years of experience to the custodial field. She is currently responsible for custodial work across 16 buildings surrounding the Detroit Metro Airport for the Wayne County Airport Authority, overseeing accounts and staff while conducting customer walkthroughs and ensuring daily tasks are completed. After three years at Battle Creek Public School Systems, she returned to the airport where her career began. Scott earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Health Studies after initially studying nursing, during which time she worked at the physical plant and Breslin Center. Her professional approach is informed by advice to perform only eight hours of work within eight hours and to avoid taking matters personally when they are beyond her control. She prioritizes being dependable, practicing strong time management, treating all staff equally without favoritism, and remaining consistent with policies. Since 2014, she has volunteered with the non-profit GH Hands Healing Ministry through her church.

One of my previous directors told us like you can only do 8 hours worth of work in 8 hours. And two, not taking things personal and not letting things get to you or upset you like when things are out of your control.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Definitely knowing your worth and what you're capable of doing, and knowing that whatever task or assignment or challenge comes before you that you do the best that you feel that you can do to get the job done.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being dependable, dealing with time management well, treating everyone equally with no playing favoritism, sticking to policies and staying consistent with everyone.
