Ten minutes with Cheryl

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to relationships, language, and showing up with intention.

I have learned that people do business with people who make them feel good, smart, and capable. That belief guides everything I do. From leadership to lending to coaching.

I am deeply curious about people. I listen for what matters. I choose my words carefully because words shape confidence, decisions, and trust. When conversations improve, outcomes improve.

I also believe in community over competition. I have built my career by collaborating, lifting others, and creating spaces where women feel supported and seen. Success multiplies when we grow together.

Consistency matters too. I show up. Even when it is uncomfortable. Especially when it matters. I stay coachable. I keep learning. I do the work.

Most of all, I attribute my success to gratitude. For my family. For the people who believe in me. And for the responsibility of being trusted in meaningful moments of others’ lives.

Words matter. So does heart. I lead with both.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Stop trying to be impressive and start being useful.

That advice changed everything for me. When I focused on helping people understand their options, feel confident, and make good decisions, success followed naturally.

I also learned that you do not need to have all the answers. You need to ask better questions, listen closely, and care deeply. When you do that, people feel safe. And trust grows.

The best advice reminded me that leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room. It is about being present, prepared, and genuinely invested in the people you serve.

When you lead with integrity, clarity, and care, your career has room to grow in ways you never planned.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust yourself sooner.

You do not need to know everything to get started. You need curiosity, integrity, and the courage to ask questions. Skills can be taught. Confidence is built by showing up and practicing.

Learn the business. Learn the language. Words matter. How you explain things can either confuse people or empower them. Choose to be a guide, not a salesperson.

Find community early. Surround yourself with people who cheer for your growth and challenge you to be better. You are not meant to do this alone.

And finally, define success on your own terms. Build a career that supports your life, your family, and your values. There is room for ambition and joy. It should be fun.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge right now is noise. Too much information. Too many tools. Too many voices saying different things. That can create confusion for both professionals and the people we serve.

The opportunity is clarity.

AI is changing how we work, and that is a good thing. It can handle research, organization, follow-up, and speed in ways we never could before. Used well, AI gives us time back. Time to think. Time to connect. Time to care.

But AI cannot replace trust, judgment, or human connection. It cannot read the room. It cannot feel the weight of a decision. That is where professionals still matter.

The leaders who will thrive are the ones who combine technology with humanity. They use AI to be more prepared and more consistent, not less personal.

This is a moment to raise the bar. To communicate better. To guide more clearly. To show up as steady, confident humans in an uncertain market.

When we use AI as a tool and not a shortcut, the opportunity is enormous.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity comes first. Doing the right thing matters, even when it is not the easiest or fastest option. Trust is built one decision at a time.

Family is everything. My work is important, but the people I love are the reason I work the way I do. Success should support life, not replace it.

Collaboration is essential. I believe we go farther when we build together, share ideas, and lift each other up. Community over competition always wins.

I also value gratitude and growth. I stay curious. I remain coachable. I look for ways to get better while appreciating how far I have come.

When my work aligns with these values, it feels meaningful. And when it feels meaningful, it works.
