About Cheryl
Cheryl Ellis serves as the Vendor Master in Purchasing for Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in Pueblo, Colorado. She entered the steel industry in 1997 after her husband worked at the mill during a strike, initially volunteering and then being hired. Ellis spent her first 10 years in HR before moving into purchasing, where she has spent the past 20 years managing all vendor files for 30,000 to 40,000 vendors across North America, including sites in Canada, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon. Her daily work involves vetting vendors, updating records for banking, contacts, and addresses, and performing extensive data entry using Oracle and Excel. She holds a high school education supplemented by some college coursework and numerous classes in computers, spreadsheets, and databases taken throughout her career to enhance her skills. Ellis was previously involved with the Hearts of Steel, a group of women in the industry that supported the Pueblo community through donations and Share and Care initiatives.
