Her Interview

Ten minutes with Cheryl

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of my project management experience, my background in culinary operations and permitting, and the strong relationships I’ve cultivated with vendors and other professionals. I also credit the confidence and guidance instilled in me by mentors and peers along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came when I was leaving my previous job during a rather chaotic period. People around me encouraged me, saying, “You can do this on your own.” Their confidence gave me the assurance that I could successfully run my own business. Hearing that I had the ability to succeed on my own made me realize that if anyone could do it, I could too—and today, I am living that advice.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The biggest advice I would give to young women entering this industry is to find a strong mentor—someone who is doing what you aspire to do—and learn as much as you can from them. There are so many paths within the culinary and hospitality fields, and it’s important to explore what truly interests you. That often means trying a variety of roles before you discover your passion, and having a mentor can make that journey much easier. I actually have a mentee right now who is interested in hospitality and moving more into the culinary side, so this is advice I actively share and guide her with.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in my field right now is business development—expanding my network to increase visibility and attract new clients. Building these connections is a top priority, as it allows me to grow my practice while creating meaningful professional relationships.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The value that is most important to me in both my work and personal life is balance. I strive to maintain harmony between my professional responsibilities and personal well-being, ensuring that I can give my best in all areas while staying grounded and fulfilled.
