Her Interview
Ten minutes with Cheyanna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a commitment to continuous growth and always striving to do my best in every area of my life. I approach my work and personal responsibilities with integrity, attention to detail, and a strong sense of accountability. By consistently showing up as my best self, staying open to learning, and embracing opportunities to improve, I continue to grow both professionally and personally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Having confidence and trusting yourself. Because of the drive to do everything perfectly, it can sometimes lead to second-guessing your own strategies or solutions. The advice to remain confident and let the data back your decisions has been transformative — making it easier to walk into meetings, clearly present proposals, explain the reasoning behind them, and bring people on board. Knowing that others trust what you're doing is a powerful reminder to trust yourself as well.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Take every opportunity that comes your way — never turn down a stretch or growth opportunity. Everything is a learning experience, and this field changes every day, so every opportunity gets you closer to where you want to be. Additionally, pursue the licensed customs broker exam. There is no bigger or more respected certificate in Global Trade. Having that credential will put you ahead of the curve, give you a wealth of knowledge, and earn you the respect of your peers and colleagues.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is navigating the constantly evolving landscape of global tariffs and trade regulations. Changes in government policies, import and export requirements, and tariff costs can occur frequently, requiring organizations to remain adaptable and proactive. The challenge is maintaining compliance while anticipating how these changes may impact business operations and identifying strategies to mitigate financial risks. At the same time, this environment creates opportunities to strengthen strategic planning, improve decision-making, and develop innovative solutions that help organizations remain resilient in a changing global marketplace.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Continuous growth is a core value, both professionally and personally. Striving to perform at the highest level in every area of life, showing up as the best version of oneself, and working with integrity are all deeply important. Attention to detail and doing things the right way — whether at home as a mother of two or at work ensuring trade compliance — are guiding principles that keep both personal and professional life running smoothly.
