Cheyenne Elliott-Smith is a seasoned transportation and logistics professional serving as a Senior Account Manager with J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. in Dallas. With nearly six years of experience in the transportation industry, Cheyenne’s connection to the field began long before her career officially started. Raised in a family rooted in trucking, with her father working as a truck driver and her mother often traveling alongside him, transportation has always been a natural part of her life. Today, she manages a diverse range of accounts across intermodal, over-the-road, port and dray carriers, refrigerated freight, dry van, and open deck solutions. Guided by the philosophy that “if you’ve got it and it needs to be moved, we can help,” she is passionate about building enterprise-level solutions and ensuring every customer has a strategy tailored to their operational needs.

Throughout her career, Cheyenne has built a strong reputation for combining operational knowledge with relationship-driven customer service. She believes successful partnerships should remain relational rather than transactional, and she works diligently to help customers grow within the company, whether through expanding services or transitioning them into dedicated solutions with on-site support teams. One of her most rewarding recent experiences involved navigating a complex open deck project with a longtime customer, an experience that strengthened both the partnership and her expertise in problem-solving under pressure. Her commitment to understanding market conditions and industry impacts allows her to confidently guide customers through challenges and opportunities alike. By staying informed on transportation trends and communicating those insights clearly, she has earned the trust, respect, and long-term loyalty of the clients she serves.

Before entering transportation, Cheyenne spent several years in retail leadership, including department management roles with Sprouts Farmers Market and Walmart. Those experiences helped shape her adaptable, hands-on leadership style and reinforced her belief in learning every aspect of the business, not just her own role. She proudly describes herself as a “jack-of-all-trades,” someone who can step in wherever needed and contribute across teams and functions. That versatility, combined with her dedication to teamwork and customer success, has earned her multiple recognitions, including the “Be The Go To” Award and the CE Partner – ICS National Award. Known for her work ethic, reliability, and solution-oriented mindset, Cheyenne continues to make a meaningful impact in the transportation industry while building lasting relationships with colleagues, customers, and partners alike.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

This is gonna sound crazy, like I'm a Cat Lady, but honestly, my animals. To be transparent, I've struggled my entire life with mental illness, and I also do not really have a support system. I did not gain a support system until about a couple of years ago, and those people literally came from my job. So I'm in my early 30s, and I don't know who or what to support, so the only thing that's really kept me going is, you know, I could easily be outside living on ground, but my cats can't do that. My dog at the time, who unfortunately passed last August, she can't do that. So taking care of them, my children as I say, is literally the reason why I've continued going every single day. Every day is a treasure because of them. It's in my bones to work hard - my dad worked up until the point that cancer told him to stop working, and my mom always worked two to three jobs my entire life. So it's in my bones, you know? It's in my bones to work hard, and I've learned that I can do that no matter what degree I have in my pocket.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice, living for sure, is be flexible and be willing to learn at every step of the way. Everything changes, and flexibility, to me, is one of the biggest reasons why I have been able to continue. I have moved different positions, I have worked on different accounts, I have even moved states. But my flexibility has been one of the reasons why I haven't drowned in everything. I see other coworkers around me that aren't the same flexibility, and it kind of takes over them, which is hard, but they're not the same type of person as me, so I understand that. But also, the willingness I have to learn every part - it's not my part, but something that is associated with my job - has actively really helped me not only understand my job, but also grow in my own career, and also grow those relationships. People stay around because they know that I can take care of them, and I can take care of them because I have learned how to.
