Her Story
About China
Reverend and Chaplain Chyna Evans McCall is a pastoral counselor, advocate, and spiritual care professional with more than a decade of experience supporting individuals through grief, life transitions, crisis situations, and personal growth. As an interfaith chaplain, she is dedicated to providing compassionate, inclusive care to people of all faith traditions, spiritual backgrounds, and belief systems. Her work is rooted in advocacy, social justice, and creating safe, welcoming spaces where individuals can find comfort, healing, and meaning during life's most challenging moments.
Chyna combines extensive theological and clinical training to serve patients, families, and communities with empathy and professionalism. She holds a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling and Advocacy from Liberty University and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Winston-Salem State University. She also earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with minors in humanities and African American Studies from Shaw University. Her professional experience includes hospice and hospital chaplaincy roles with organizations such as AMOREM, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, and UNC Health Rex, as well as community engagement work in South Africa focused on health outreach and pastoral support. Drawing from these experiences, she founded Lemon and Fig Chaplaincy Solutions, a practice dedicated to providing nonjudgmental spiritual counseling and holistic support.
Throughout her career, Chyna has been guided by a deep commitment to faith, compassion, and human dignity. She is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, an ACPE-certified chaplain, and a passionate educator who regularly promotes inclusivity and understanding across diverse communities. She attributes her success to her spiritual foundation and believes in empowering others to recognize their inherent worth and resilience. Guided by her personal motto, “May you know you already have what you need, to be who you already are,” Chyna continues to advocate for healing, self-discovery, and meaningful connection in every community she serves.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with China
01What do you attribute your success to?
My spirituality and being grounded in faith has been the cornerstone that guides me to overcome challenges and stay true to compassion and empathy in healing people through faith and counseling.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never stop trying.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
As women we are often the ones everyone comes to for answers, strength and encouragement, but who is really caring for us? You need to carry for yourself as much as you are caring for others. Grieving and healing are wonderful opportunities to rediscover yourself and being who you were created and designed to be. Community of individuals that you know you're safe with is important. We have to help each other.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It has been an obstacle course to communicate the need for Lemon and Fig because it is a new concept. Spirituality and counseling does affect your life and health. There are instances where opportunities do not come to fruition which can be disheartening but they are bumper cars to push you in another direction.
