Q

What do you attribute your success to?

She attributes her success to her unwavering faith in God, believing that His guidance, grace, and favor have directed her path, opened doors of opportunity, and sustained her through challenges. She credits her accomplishments not only to hard work and determination, but to trusting God’s plan, remaining prayerful, and staying grounded in her purpose.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is that even though there are bills to pay, it's very important to make sure you love what you do. That advice has really guided me to the company I work for now, and I can honestly say I'm really satisfied with them. They're very intentional about understanding that when you work from home, there are kids involved and life happens. The flexibility they offer is incredible - they were even okay with me changing my work schedule to accommodate my mommy life and school pickup schedule. It's not a rigid 8 to 5 situation. Making sure you love whatever job you choose is what's going to drive you to wake up early, get your job done, pay attention to what you're doing, and be efficient in your production. That passion and satisfaction makes all the difference in how you show up to work every day.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to women entering the healthcare industry is that there's always room for growth. You can never be idle in this field. Even if you feel like your job does the same thing over and over, ask yourself what you can do to bring something different into it. Don't just focus on wanting the next big pay raise or the next promotion. Focus on teaching yourself certain skills so that even if tomorrow the company shuts down, the skills you have can get you a higher paying position somewhere else. Don't limit yourself to just what your job description is. Always look for ways to improve what you're currently doing. With the way systems are changing and things are evolving in healthcare, there's always more to learn and ways to grow beyond your current role.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge for me right now in healthcare is transitioning into the project management aspect. Even though I'm working as an operations analyst and we're given projects to analyze, it's not the same as true project management where you have multiple stakeholders and vendors to manage like I do in event planning. I basically have to channel both my healthcare experience and my event planning experience to make my end goal of project management work. That's really the challenge - bringing those two worlds together. As for opportunities, there are so many roles I know I can move up to in my current position. While I'm working on my auditing certification, I can also start working toward becoming a certified project manager. The opportunity is there, it's just about bridging my skills from both industries to get where I want to go.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are time management and consistency. Time management is number one for me, followed by consistency, and really being able to have a routine. Having a routine that works is honestly the only way I can juggle working from home while managing my toddlers and infants. Everything ties into creating a routine that works, because that routine comes with being consistent in it and managing your time well. That's really what helps me be more productive in both my work and personal life. Without that structure and discipline around time and consistency, I wouldn't be able to balance my healthcare career, my event planning business, and being a full-time mom to four children.
