Her Story

About Chioma

Chioma Mbagwu is a Financial Accounting Consultant at Robert Half, bringing approximately six years of accounting experience since transitioning into the field in 2020. Her work spans accounts payable, invoicing, reconciliations, financial reporting, expense classification, and process improvement. In her current role, she supports finance and accounting operations while helping strengthen invoicing workflows, improve vendor communication, and maintain accurate financial processes. Earlier in her career, Chioma held accounting and accounts payable positions with LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics and United Terrain Group. She is also a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and has continued expanding her technical and financial knowledge throughout her career.

Chioma earned a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and is currently pursuing a Master of Accounting at East Texas A&M University while working full time. Her interest in numbers began much earlier, when she developed a love for mathematics in high school, often taking multiple math courses in a semester and tutoring other students. That enthusiasm eventually helped guide her toward accounting and a career centered on financial accuracy and problem-solving. Alongside her professional and academic commitments, Chioma is an entrepreneur and the owner of The Fragrance Fix, a business she launched to curate and resell Middle Eastern perfumes.

Giving back to the community is another important part of Chioma’s life. She volunteers with Umu Igbo Unite, where she currently serves as Director of Finance for the national organization after previously serving as Treasurer and President of its Tri-State Chapter. Through these leadership roles, she has contributed to financial stewardship, organizational planning, cultural programming, and community engagement. Outside of work, school, entrepreneurship, and volunteering, Chioma enjoys exploring new places and discovering restaurants as a self-described foodie. She credits her continued growth to lifelong curiosity and approaches both her professional and personal pursuits with authenticity, integrity, and a commitment to learning.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Chioma

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to curiosity, persistence, and a strong desire to understand how things work. I have always been someone who asks questions, looks for the bigger picture, and wants to understand what the final result should look like. Once I set a goal, I stay committed to it and continue working until I achieve the outcome I am striving for.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to stay true to myself. I believe it is important to remain genuine and authentic in every professional setting because there is only one me. Staying grounded in who I am allows me to build meaningful relationships, make confident decisions, and bring my own perspective and strengths to every opportunity.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the accounting and finance industry to believe in themselves and trust their abilities. You are where you are for a reason, so have confidence in your skills, intelligence, and potential. There will be difficult moments, but believing in yourself will help you move through those challenges and continue growing. Stay focused, keep learning, and trust that your abilities will allow you to shine.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field is making sure all the pieces of a financial process work together efficiently. In my current work, this means creating a smooth and reliable invoicing process from beginning to end. When communication, systems, approvals, and financial information are properly aligned, organizations can operate more efficiently, reduce errors, and improve overall financial accuracy.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are authenticity, integrity, and growth. Authenticity means staying true to who I am and bringing my genuine self into everything I do. Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, because that builds trust and allows others to see you as someone they can depend on. Growth is equally important to me because I always want to continue developing my skills, expanding my knowledge, and progressing both professionally and personally.
