About Chloe
Chloe Barnett is an Emmy Award-winning storyteller, documentary producer, and community advocate whose work bridges environmental awareness, social impact, and media production. Based in South Florida, she developed a passion for storytelling and service at a young age, inspired by her Costa Rican heritage, Florida’s cultural diversity, and the natural beauty of the Everglades and surrounding oceans. Her early experiences in community service, environmental restoration, and the Girl Scouts shaped her commitment to creating meaningful change through media. A graduate of Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism, earned magna cum laude, Barnett has dedicated her career to amplifying underrepresented voices and producing stories that connect people, culture, and the environment. Barnett’s professional career combines documentary filmmaking with grassroots community engagement. As a Producer at Fuxion, Inc., she co-produced and hosted the Emmy Award-winning documentary Women of the Watershed, which highlights women leading restoration and conservation efforts in the Florida Everglades. The documentary earned recognition at international and environmental film festivals, including the Montreal Women's Film Festival and the Florida Environmental Film Festival. She also contributed to projects such as The Reading Reboot and Who Cares for Mom?, a multimedia documentary initiative exploring maternal health and maternal mortality in the United States. Through these productions, Barnett has established herself as a rising voice in documentary storytelling focused on environmental justice, education, and women’s health advocacy. Alongside her media work, Barnett works for Mujeres Latinas Empowering Women, where she supports programs designed to empower girls, women, and families in South Broward County. Her background with the National Museum of the American Latino Young Ambassadors Program and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival further strengthened her mission to become a community-conscious leader who uses storytelling as a tool for advocacy and education. Guided by the belief that media can inspire awareness and action, Barnett continues to pursue projects that uplift marginalized communities, encourage environmental stewardship, and create meaningful social impact.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Chloe
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong support system and community around me. My family has always been my greatest source of encouragement, and I’ve also been fortunate to learn from incredible friends and mentors throughout my life. Growing up with a father who championed female empowerment and a mother deeply involved in the community exposed me to diverse perspectives that helped shape my values, confidence, and understanding of who I am today.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering this industry to stay committed to the work they believe in, remain resilient through challenges, and be open to pivoting when opportunities or circumstances change. I also believe mentorship is incredibly important, and that both men and women should actively support and mentor young professionals so they can learn from a wide range of perspectives and experiences.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the continued male dominance within the industry, along with the disparities that still affect women in professional spaces. Another challenge is the lack of awareness within many communities about the resources and support available to them. At the same time, there is a significant opportunity to use media and storytelling as powerful tools to raise awareness, foster engagement, and create community-focused, impact-driven initiatives that can make a meaningful difference.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are making a positive impact, inclusivity, perseverance, and mentorship. Ever since my time as a Girl Scout, I’ve carried the belief in “making the world a better place,” and that continues to guide everything I do. I strongly believe in mentoring across different backgrounds and perspectives, because learning from others helps us better understand ourselves and create more meaningful change. I’m also passionate about addressing disparities that women face and believe that continued persistence, even through unexpected turns, is what ultimately leads to growth and lasting impact.
