Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I'm a Christian, so I believe God has His plan, and that I have been going through that plan for my entire life. I think the situations and places I've been have been there for the reasons, and have had to leave or switch for the reasons that I have. My family and my parents have always been super supportive. Growing up, they would try to help us be a part and involved in whatever we wanted to, and they were always there when we were crying or when we were happy. I can't talk highly enough of my parents and everything they've done for my siblings and I. My parents have loved me, even though I have made my mistakes, and their support has been instrumental in everything I've accomplished.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Honestly, my best career advice came from the military, where they said your career path, you're the only one who cares about your career path. Make sure that you're advocating for yourself and keeping a log of what you've done, because some people will see you, yes, but if you want to make moves in your life, you have to be the one to initiate them. I never really understood that until probably the past 2 years ago. I've been in the military for three and a half years, and I was like, yep, if I want to make moves, no one's gonna do it for me, I've gotta activate it.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to work hard and make sure that you are advocating for yourself. I feel like it's hard to be a young female in a management role a lot of the times. A lot of the people who have been on my team have been older than me, so I've needed to stand my ground, and even though someone's like, well, I've been in the industry for years, I'm like, okay, that's great, but this is how we're doing it. Obviously take advice from people, but stand your ground and have your backbone. Don't let people push you around, because you're making the decision, you're making it for a reason.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Moving into operations, rather than necessarily the fitness industry, well, I guess it could go for both, it's that both are ever-evolving fields and things are changing on a daily basis. In fitness, there's some new exercise fad, or there's a new way that we figured out how we can be more effective with physical activity. On the operations side, obviously, processes can always be updated, so I would say making sure that you're staying on top of whatever present knowledge is happening, being aware of articles that are coming out, still continuing to educate yourself post-education. You'll still be learning every day.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Trust is a very big one for me. I want to be able to trust who I'm working with, and obviously the people around me. I don't want to have to question anything that's going on or being said. I'd also say loyalty. I'm sometimes loyal to a fault, but I want to make adjustments to that on how I go forth about that, but I still want to be a loyal person, because I believe a lot of people value that. Then trust kind of goes hand-in-hand with it, that they will talk to you and trust you with information. They'll trust you to be a leader and get the job done.
