What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to lifelong learning, resilience, and a deep commitment to service and education. My 28-year teaching career at UNI was built on an earlier foundation in agribusiness and shaped by a pivotal decision to return to school for a business degree after a personal loss. That experience strengthened my resolve and redirected my work toward international business education, where I found lasting purpose.
My success is also rooted in global engagement and mentorship. Teaching in Thailand, leading international student programs, advising student organizations, and guiding students through supply chain case competitions have shown me the power of experiential learning. Seeing students secure positions at organizations like Collins Aerospace and go on to establish annual competitions that welcome international participants has been especially meaningful. Professional certifications in global business and cultural intelligence, along with a strong international network, have further supported my impact.
Finally, I credit values-driven service and relationships. From medical missions to Ethiopia with Project CURE to building schools and providing books for children in Nicaragua, Panama, Ghana, and Ethiopia, my work is grounded in love, mutual respect, honesty, and a strong work ethic. Hosting international students on my acreage and writing books that foster global understanding reflect my belief that education transforms lives, especially when we remain curious, stay current, and uplift one another.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to her in both her work and personal life center on family, community, and meaningful connection. She treasures spending quality time with her four beautiful grandchildren, finding joy and purpose in nurturing strong family bonds and creating lasting memories.
Equally important to her is hospitality and cultural exchange. She takes pride in welcoming international students to her land, offering a warm, inclusive environment where visitors can feel at home, connect with nature, and experience genuine care and generosity. These values guide her approach to life leading with openness, compassion, and a deep appreciation for relationships that enrich both her world and the lives of others.
