Her Story
About Chrissy
Chrissy Parker serves as SPED director in Oklahoma, where she has worked in special education for 11 years. Her path into the field was shaped by her family's educational legacy, including her grandfather's role as a professor at Langston University, and by her daughter's autism diagnosis at age one and a half, which inspired her to advocate for children with special needs. Parker earned master's degrees in leadership and special education, and she is a member of the Higher Achievement Association in the Education Department at NSU. In 2023 she founded Aspen Learning LLC to support families navigating autism, and in 2024 she launched the Champagne Posse, an all-female horseback riding group that gives back to autism causes, rural Oklahoma areas, and youth organizations. Her most notable achievement includes leading special needs students to the highest testing scores in the state of Oklahoma, surpassing the general education population. Parker attributes her success to her daughter and emphasizes values of doing what you love with full commitment while advising others never to give up and to provide the support they would want for their own children.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Chrissy
01What do you attribute your success to?
My daughter is the reason I push so hard to advocate for children with special needs. She is literally my reason why I am successful.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't let outside people intervene on your basic task. Don't listen to those who have not walked in your shoes because everybody's learning experience is different.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never give up. Be trustworthy and be the support that you would want a child to have. Show them love and respect.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Not being able to get every child to their full potential due to disabilities, can't save them all. Opportunities: Making them achieve goals and turning doubt into victory for parents.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Do what you love and put 110% into it. Love what you do and do what you love. You never know who's watching.
