Her Interview

Ten minutes with Christen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to consistently giving my best, even in moments of self-doubt or imposter syndrome. I’ve learned the importance of stepping back to appreciate how far I’ve come while continuing to challenge myself to grow. I strive to remain open to feedback, embrace new challenges and opportunities, and never become too comfortable or stagnant. For me, success is rooted in a growth mindset, being willing to try new things, learn from every experience, and recognize that there is always an opportunity to become better.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One piece of career advice that has stayed with me is to focus on building a careeer, not just doing a job. Be intentional about understanding how your work connects to the bigger picture, build meaningful relationships across your organization, and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. Sometimes the best opportunities come from raising your hand before you feel completely ready. Your career will evolve, so stay curious, be adaptable, and make decisions that move you closer to the person and professional you want to become.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to take the opportunity, even when they feel nervous, uncertain, or not completely prepared. Be willing to put yourself out there, introduce yourself, share your ideas, and build genuine relationships with people both inside and outside of your organization. Your knowledge and skills are important, but so is having a strong network of people who know your work and can advocate for you. Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready. Sometimes growth comes from saying yes and figuring it out along the way.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Artificial intelligence is creating one of the biggest opportunities in compliance right now. As organizations incorporate AI into more processes, compliance professionals have an opportunity to help shape how the technology is used responsibly. That means considering regulatory requirements, privacy, potential risks and bias, and ensuring appropriate human oversight remains in place. I think there is tremendous value in developing AI knowledge while maintaining a strong compliance and risk mindset. The goal isn’t to shy away from emerging technology, but to understand how we can use it responsibly and effectively.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value integrity, growth, meaningful relationships, and being intentional about how I spend my time. Professionally, that means doing the right thing, remaining open to feedback, treating people with respect, and always being willing to learn and evolve. Personally, my family keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of being present and enjoying the moments that matter. To me, success is about more than reaching the next milestone. It’s about continuing to grow while building a life and career that I’m genuinely proud of and enjoy.
