Christie Forbes (She/Her) is a seasoned educator with over 33 years of experience at Tecumseh Local Schools. She currently serves as a 7th Grade Science teacher, building on years of teaching 6th and 8th grade classrooms. Christie’s professional focus is on meeting students where they are, particularly those who have struggled academically, and creating stable, supportive classroom environments. She emphasizes collaboration and community support, believing that teachers thrive when they work closely with colleagues, families, and the broader school community.

Christie’s areas of expertise include middle school education, student engagement, literacy development, classroom leadership, and supporting at-risk learners. She holds a Gifted and Talented Endorsement from the University of Cincinnati and has completed additional graduate-level coursework at the University of Dayton. Actively involved in the educational community, Christie participates in the Teachers Association, the Ohio Education Association (OEA), and youth sports programs within her school community. She attributes her professional success to strong relationships with students, consistent mentorship, dedication to lifelong learning, and active engagement in both school and community initiatives.

Christie began her teaching career shortly after completing her undergraduate studies, initially leading an 8th grade self-contained classroom for students who were at risk of falling behind. She later taught both 6th and 8th grade classes before transitioning to her current 7th grade Science role. Over her career, Christie has received multiple honors, including induction into the National Junior Honor Society as a teacher and several Teacher of the Month awards. She considers her most notable achievement to be the long-term impact she has had on her students, many of whom maintain contact and credit her guidance with their academic and personal success. Outside of the classroom, Christie enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and running youth basketball leagues, reflecting her lifelong commitment to mentorship, education, and community engagement.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Christie credits several influential mentors Linda Johnson, Kathy Klosterman, Karen Chambliss, and Tammy Elam for shaping her career and leadership approach. Their guidance and support throughout her teaching journey helped her navigate challenges, build confidence, and continually grow as an educator and leader.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't try to do it on your own. Rely on others, ask questions, and don't be an island." Christie urges new educators to seek support, be vulnerable when they need help, and build a collaborative network.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Christie sees the biggest challenge as meeting the diverse needs of today’s students, while the greatest opportunity lies in building meaningful connections that positively shape students’ futures.
