Christina Maria Cancio

Strategy and Operations Manager
Electrum Construction, Inc.
Miami, FL 33155

Christina Cancio is a business and operational transformation leader serving as Strategy & Operations Manager at Electrum Construction, Inc. in Miami. Since joining the company following the completion of her Master of Science in Finance degree in 2025, Christina has played a key role in driving company-wide strategic initiatives in partnership with executive leadership to scale operations, improve profitability, and support sustainable growth. She has led cross-functional operational improvements that transformed how projects are managed across pre-construction, field execution, and cost and schedule management, bringing greater reliability, accountability, and visibility to every stage of the project lifecycle. Her work has contributed to faster project delivery, safer operations, and the development of scalable systems that strengthen long-term organizational performance. In less than a year at Electrum, Christina has already delivered measurable impact, including reducing wire-pulling time by approximately 50% and leading a major technology adoption and data visualization initiative designed to provide real-time insights into project reliability and profitability.

Christina’s career is built on a unique combination of engineering, finance, operational strategy, and innovation. Prior to joining Electrum Construction, she improved operational processes, informed strategic decision-making, and generated multimillion-dollar impact across several industries. As a Deal Analyst for the University of Miami ’Cane Angel Network, she evaluated high-tech startups, conducted due diligence, and supported venture capital and angel investment decisions. She also served as a consultant and project leader for the United States Federal Government, where she successfully doubled workflow capabilities by implementing operational improvements and developing a machine learning solution that predicted vehicle maintenance needs and improved fleet reliability. Earlier in her career, Christina worked at HEICO, where she spearheaded process improvement initiatives that significantly increased production capacity, improved operational efficiency, and established new standards for manufacturing excellence. Across every role, she has consistently demonstrated the ability to solve complex business problems through a combination of technical expertise, financial analysis, and creative strategic thinking.

When it comes to leadership, Christina believes that the best systems only work when the people executing them are truly invested. That is why she is just as committed to leading and inspiring those around her as she is to the operational work itself. She wants teams to execute with pride and integrity, and strives to be the kind of leader who makes them want to do just that.

A proud “Triple Cane,” Christina earned three degrees from the University of Miami, including a Master of Science in Finance, a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with a Minor in Motion Pictures. Her academic achievements culminated in being named Valedictorian of the University of Miami’s Master of Science in Finance program. This combination of education and her analytical mindset allow her to solve complex business issues from a technical, financial, and creative lens.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Christina is deeply passionate about leadership, mentorship, and expanding opportunities in STEM education. As the founder and former president of Power Bot Girls, she created a robotics summer camp designed to empower underprivileged girls and introduce them to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Christina is also very appreciative of her time at the University of Miami and is a member of the UM Alumni Association and College of Engineering Alumni Association. She also volunteers with Engineers Without Borders.

Guided by a passion for solving complex problems and creating sustainable impact, Christina continues to build a career focused on operational excellence, innovation, and transforming organizations through strategy, technology, and data-driven leadership.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my strong work ethic, analytical mindset, creativity, and intentional leadership. I'm always challenging myself to be more innovative, drive bigger results, and push the boundaries of what's possible.

I believe my biggest strength is in my proven ability to improve businesses and workflows repeatedly with consistent execution. If you can get really good at something that you are passionate about, whatever it is, and repeatedly and consistently execute and deliver results, success will follow.

I'm also very blessed to have a really strong support system. My family, friends, and colleagues have all supported me personally and professionally, allowing me to really grow in my career and focus on doing what I love to do, which is creating lasting sustainable impact in organizations, especially in the construction industry.

Honestly, a lot of my success comes from genuinely caring about the people I work with and the people I work for. I don't just deliver results, I want the people around me to feel proud of what we built together. That human connection is what makes the work meaningful to me.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice, and life advice in general, that I've ever received is to "lead by example because actions speak louder than words," and to "never let fear speak louder than your dreams."

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Construction is a very male-dominated industry. There aren't many women working in the office, and whenever I go out to the field, I am almost always the only woman out there amongst all the trades. My advice is to not let that intimidate you or change the way you assert yourself. My advice is to be bold and be a go-getter - don't let anything stop you.

I also suggest networking and finding a few female mentors for guidance, while also simultaneously finding young women who you can also guide and share your experiences with. This creates a network ladder of strong successful women in your industry, whatever that may be, that can empower the next generation of women coming into the industry and help them up that ladder as well. I think it's important for women to see other women like themselves in all industries.

Many years ago, I founded a robotics summer camp program, called Power Bot Girls, to empower underprivileged girls ages 11 to 14 and expose them to STEM because I strongly believe that empowerment at a young age can radically transform their lives and help them overcome the obstacles that come with being in a male-dominated industry as an adult. Ultimately, little girls with dreams become women with vision, and you can't be what you don't see. So we have to help girls and young women see other women succeeding and living their dreams to then create that vision.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe the biggest challenge in our field right now is also the industry's biggest opportunity. Unlike many other industries being drastically impacted by rapid technological innovation and artificial intelligence, construction is currently not very affected. Of course there are new technologies emerging in the construction industry, but not at the same pace or with the same AI capabilities like in other industries. For this reason, the biggest opportunity is actually the fact that these technologies that will actually revolutionize the construction industry either don't exist or are in their infancy, which allows construction companies to take advantage of that market gap and create their own technological solutions. But this is also simultaneously the biggest challenge, as you, as a company, have to make sure that you are on the cutting edge and an early adopter of these technologies in order to get ahead of your competitors.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I believe it's always important to lead with integrity and purpose, and that's what I try to do in everything that I do. Beyond that, the values that I return to most are curiosity, growth, and service. I'm always seeking to learn and evolve, whether that's pursuing new knowledge, challenging my own thinking, or finding better ways to solve problems. I never want to be stagnant.

I also value balance, and I bring both logic and creativity to the table. I think that the most powerful solutions come when you can approach a problem analytically and imaginatively at the same time, and that's something that I try to bring into both my work and my personal life.

At the core of everything is a genuine commitment to service - to my team, my community, and the next generation. I believe we have a responsibility to use our gifts and our position to make things better for the people around us, and that's a value I try to live every single day, not just talk about.
