Her Story

About Christina

Christina Lawrence is a professional makeup artist, licensed cosmetologist, educator, and entrepreneur whose nearly two decades in the beauty industry have been defined by artistry, evolution, and an unwavering commitment to her craft. An Oakland native now based in Los Angeles, Christina began her career in hairstyling before discovering that makeup artistry was where her passion truly came alive.

Today, her work spans beauty, special events, editorial, red carpet, and education, with her artistry most recently featured at the BET Awards Glam Suite. As the founder of Paradise Beauty, Christina has built a multifaceted beauty brand while remaining deeply involved in every aspect of its creative direction, from artistry and education to branding and business development.

Her creative perspective extends beyond beauty. With an associate’s degree in Arts and a background in fashion design, Christina brings an editorial eye and an understanding of color, composition, and style to her work. She is equally passionate about continued education, cultivating meaningful industry relationships, and creating opportunities beyond traditional boundaries.

At the center of it all is her faith. Christina approaches both her life and career with the belief that her gifts have purpose, and she is intentional about pursuing opportunities that align with her values. Her journey has been shaped by faith, perseverance, continuous learning, and the willingness to step outside of her comfort zone, qualities that continue to guide her as both an artist and entrepreneur.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Christina

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my faith, creativity, dedication, and passion for what I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I haven’t received much career advice from family or within my personal circle because no one around me has pursued the path I’m creating. Much of my journey has required me to learn through experience, grow from my mistakes, and trust the Lord for guidance along the way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think the most valuable advice I could provide would be to believe in yourself. Know that you have value. Be business-minded, professional, and always work with integrity. Most importantly, have faith, get outside of your comfort zone, never stop learning, and master the art of efficient networking!

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities as a MUA are endless! It really depends on the avenue(s) one wants to take. If you’re like me and various aspects of the industry speak to you, cultivate relationships in those areas and insert yourself. I think the challenges are unique to the individual artist and the path they choose. No two makeup artists have the same career. One may specialize in bridal, another may work on set, another may work from a studio, or a combination, like myself. I guess the most universal challenge would be time management, especially with LA traffic!

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Personally and professionally, my faith is of the utmost importance to me. Everything else is secondary, so the projects I choose to contribute to must be in alignment with my values.
