About Christina

Christin Wilson has dedicated 22 years to the field of education in Alabama. She earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in education, and she has obtained additional certifications in literacy and dyslexia. Her expertise centers on English language arts, literacy instruction, and supporting students with dyslexia through the art of teaching reading. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilson taught in traditional classroom settings, including 12th grade English, and worked as a literacy specialist. During the pandemic, she transitioned to adjunct work at a college and has since remained in virtual education, serving as a general contractor for multiple school districts and companies. In this role, she provides one-on-one guidance to students working at their own pace on various courses. One of her most rewarding professional experiences involved helping a homeless student who was caring for younger siblings pass the reading portion of the graduation exam after intensive tutoring. Wilson has received recognitions such as Teacher of the Month, Teacher of the Year, and inclusion in Who's Who Among Educators. She emphasizes that education is a calling rather than merely a profession.

Ten minutes with Christina

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

This is not a profession, this is a calling. Any educator is a call from God because this is not something that is not for the faint of heart. It's not for those that wear their feelings on their sleeves. You definitely have to be called to do, otherwise you won't be able to withstand the things that you're going to face. Dealing with your students, dealing with administration, dealing with parents, and... drive to keep doing it. If you weren't called to do this, you would leave... you'll leave the profession within 3 years.
