About Christina

Christina N. Smith is a Financial Protection Strategist, Educator, and advocate for family-centered financial wellness whose career has been shaped by resilience, lifelong learning, and a commitment to empowering others. After earning her Associate of Applied Science in Legal Administrative Assistance/Paralegal Studies from Heald Business College in 1995, she began her professional journey in legal administration, working as a legal secretary, legal assistant, and paralegal before spending time in law enforcement. Despite facing significant personal challenges, including overcoming a decade-long domestic violence situation, Christina rebuilt her life as a single mother through determination, self-education, and practical experience. Her journey has inspired her mission to help individuals and families create greater stability, confidence, and purpose in their lives. Today, Christina is licensed in six states to provide life insurance, annuities, retirement planning, and financial education services. As the founder of Legacy & Protection Strategies, she takes an education-first approach to financial planning, helping women, families, and business owners identify risks, strengthen financial structures, and make informed decisions about income protection, retirement positioning, asset flow, and legacy planning. Drawing upon her background in education, entrepreneurship, and financial services, she emphasizes clarity, integrity, personal accountability, and long-term thinking. Her philosophy is rooted in the belief that strong families create strong communities and that intentional planning can positively impact future generations. Beyond her professional work, Christina is a devoted wife and mother of two children—a 21-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter—both of whom she has homeschooled. Her daily spiritual practice includes expressing gratitude, meditation, and walking before beginning her homeschooling responsibilities. Family remains at the center of her life, and she treasures gathering around the dinner table together each evening. An avid reader with a passion for lifelong learning, Christina also enjoys gardening and is currently expanding her creative skills through sewing and crocheting. Whether in her personal life or professional endeavors, she is guided by a deep commitment to self-awareness, self-worth, service, and leaving a positive legacy for generations to come.

Ten minutes with Christina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strong values and foundation instilled in me from an early age. I was fortunate to have a good upbringing that emphasized the importance of education, service to others, loyalty, and personal integrity. My family taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and treating people with respect, which have guided both my personal and professional journey. These principles, combined with a supportive family structure, have provided the foundation for the achievements and opportunities I have experienced throughout my life.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that the greatest gift you can give is the gift of your life’s work. That perspective taught me to view my career as more than just a job—it is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution, serve others, and leave a positive impact. It has inspired me to pursue work with purpose, dedicate myself fully to what I do, and strive to create value through my skills, knowledge, and experiences.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to first understand your “why” and ensure it is grounded in a genuine desire to help others. This profession is built on trust, and success requires a strong commitment to integrity, ethics, and putting people’s interests first. While financial success can be a rewarding outcome, it should not be the primary motivation for entering the field. If you want to make a lasting impact, focus on serving others, building trust, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in everything you do.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field today is effective communication. Ensuring that communication is thorough, clear, and meaningful requires patience, active listening, and a genuine commitment to understanding others. While this can be challenging in a fast-paced environment, it also presents a significant opportunity to build stronger relationships, foster trust, and achieve better outcomes. Those who take the time to communicate thoughtfully and patiently are often the most successful in creating lasting value and positive impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, personal accountability, and leading by example. I believe in “walking the talk” and making decisions with a long-term perspective, considering not only how my actions affect me and my family, but also the generations that follow. I am passionate about education, awareness, and empowering others through self-love, self-worth, and personal growth because I believe these are the foundations of healthy individuals, strong families, and thriving communities. My approach is holistic, focusing on the well-being of the entire family unit, with the belief that when we invest in people and plant seeds of positive change today, we create a stronger and more compassionate future for everyone.
